Ilwoo: Chadol, what is this about?

Please do an interview with me.

Ilwoo: ok.

Is there any special episode you had over the last 3, 4 months of filming this drama?

Ilwoo: an episode with Chadol. Chadol eats really well.

0:36

Ilwoo: special episode? Hmm what is there? What was special for you when you were filming with your father?

Well, father taught me a lot of things while filming

Ilwoo: what did you learn, Chadol? From your father?

Hmm looking at the counterpart’s eyes while I am talking to them, or how to react to certain situation, etc very specific things.

1:05

Ilwoo: it’s been 15 years since I debuted. It’s my first time having a son. His my first son and that’s why I have a great affection to him and we are enjoying filming very happily.

Where to watch Bossam Steal the Fate with Jung Il woo.

Update! April 29:  It will be available in Viki Rakuten too!!!

April 28, 2021

Wondering where to watch Jung Il Woo’s upcoming drama: Bossam Stealing Fate?  GOOD News!  We will be able to watch it in kissasian.com or dramacool.com with little delay in English!!!  (usually it’s up the next day, later in the day! in my case: Boston, USA.)  WOO hoo!

  1. The sites kissasian and dramacool have pages for it!  So do a search for ‘Bossam Stealing Fate in kissasian or dramacool the next day (May 2nd) and it should be there!  (These sites are really good at posting the episode raw a few hours later, but it takes about 6 hours or more for English subtitles. That was my experience with Sweet Munchies.)
  2. This option will be only in Korean: Watch it in YouTube.  MBN’s channel does an amazing job posting videos of each show, almost without missing much.  So if you follow the order you should be able to see most of the drama.
  3. If you are patient and don’t want to deal with pop ups from kissasia and dramacool, this drama will make it to Viki-Rakuten translated to English eventually.  It’s a bout a two day wait.

Si hablas en Español, todavia no está anunciado en Viki Rakuten ni  www27.doramasmp4.com.

화이팅!  Fighting!

Jung Il woo in the Preview Show for Bossam Steal the Fate. A bit of English Subtitles.

April 24, 2021

Jung Il woo participated along with the main cast of Bossam Stealing Fate, on a special TV show previewing the drama at MBN.  I translated one part of it, you will see it right below its video.  Here are the videos of this preview:

Here is the tranlation. Please do not copy or translate to another language without credit.  Thank you!

Q. Well, you guys get a lot of scripts/screenplays from various places, Do you have any reason you chose this drama?

Ilwoo: in fact, for me, the character Bawoo is very tough guy, and I was thinking a lot about if I I should choose this role or not. The director, however, trusts me and also helps me a lot in the drama set, so I am doing my best filming the drama with my belief in him.

0:30

Q. “The reason why I chose Bossam is because of the director.” hmm now it makes you under pressure, Yuri, what’s your reason choosing Bossam?

Ilwoo: Well, it could be because the opposite role in a drama is her type? (oh sure, it is so!)

Q. Maybe the two co-actors are her types? (haha) did you know beforehand who will be other actors in the drama?

Yuri: of course, I heard.

Q. Oh, Ilwoo will be a counterpart.

Yuri: oh yes, well… he is a big part of the reason why I decided to do a historical drama. Well, a historical drama was some sort of a new challenge for me, but Ilwoo is known for “the always big hit historical drama actor” and people around me also told me about him so I had courage to do so. In addition, I liked the director’s works a lot and as a fan of him, i thought it as a good opportunity.

1:25

Q. So, Yuri’s reason of choosing Bossam is Jung Ilwoo?

Yuri: well. To say that way… its…

Q. Jung ilwoo (feat. director)

Yuri: well, not only Jung ilwoo, but also director and Shin Hyunsoo and writers, and all others.

1:41

Q. What about you, Hyunsoo?

H: I was reading the scripts and I was imagining Ilwoo and Yuri in the drama. Frankly speaking, I thought I could see Ilwoo very befitting with Bawoo. I was thinking he will do so well as a role of Bawoo.

2:03

Q. Why why?

Ilwoo: I think I have to buy him dinner tonight.

Q. yeah! You are saying nice words of him.

H: it’s what I really feel.

Yuri: I will say it all again differently.

Here are some of my captures:

Jung Il Woo in MBN’s “Eat More” (더 먹어 가) (Some English Translation)

April 18, 2021

Jung Il woo appeared with his Co-star Kwon Yuri in the upcoming drama Bossam Stealing Fate  in the the show “Eat More.”  There he meat a Chef  Im Jiho (임지호) who uses many ingredients from his immediate environment in his dish creations. The hosts for this show are Kang Ho-dong and Hwang Je-sung, who help the Chef in scavanging, and then prepare meals that may cure the scars on guests’ bodies and minds.

During this Yuri told the story of how her mother had breast cancer and survived never telling her anything about it so she could continue her singing career uninterrupted.  Jung Il woo talked about his accident and living with his aneurysm.  I translated that part.

Please if REPOSTING or TRANSLATING this to another website, CREDIT appropriately.

Ilwoo in Bold.  Gray text, other’s comments. (Inside brackets = others reaction)

0:29 When I had just done the audition for “Highkick” in 2006, I had a big car accident. So I was in the hospital for 4 months, and right after I was discharged from the hospital, I lied to the director that I am ok and I was on a set shooting. I did that over 1 year and my health worsened.

0:50 and it was my debut but I got so much love and it gave me a lot of pressure. (like a responsibility) Yeah, so I was not able to take it any longer.

1:00  so, in fact, around 1 year (you did not feel healthy enough back then), yeah, so I took a rest for a little over 1 year.  That time, my right wrist was shattered and that time I got arthritis/ joint inflammation. On my wrist. (because you did not get full medical care) Yeah, that time I got worse as the doctor said “You have to have another surgery” so I did not get my chance to become bigger as an actor that time. I really feel saddened by that.

1:25 but I heard that was not the last struggle you had. I heard you had bigger struggle later.

1:30 year, after that, I was about 26 years old, I was shooting a drama and I had a severe headache. I went to a medical center and got tested and found out that I have a cerebral aneurysm. (yeah?)

1:49  it’s a disease which makes blood vessels swelling and when it bursts, it leads to a stroke. I was so young that I did not go out and just stayed at home because I was very shocked by the fact. (of course that’s scary! Because there is no any early sign or something for that ) I was very scared and it’s like a time bomb, and I was pressured and worried that I can die at any moment

2:13 Since I was in my early 20s, I wanted to go on a pilgrimage to Santiago. After around 1 month, I just went on a trip on the pilgrimage road without hesitation.

2:36 I felt so tired during the pilgrimage so I didn’t think about anything the whole day. the same daily routine, sleeping with tens of people in one place, and having the same goal of going to Santiago made all of us to become very close.  That moment, I was not an actor, I returned to a normal young adult and while doing that, I put down much pressure as an actor.

3:07 before, I was nervous and hurrying in many situations but after the pilgrimage I decided to enjoy the moment. Everything I have now is enough and thankful, I think of such things these days.

3:22 (Chef Im Jiho) I have been walking from the southern sea to Gwangju, Suncheon and Yeosu. If I don’t have any shoes, I go to any house and ask for shoes and then walk and walk. It’s not like enlightening, but more like getting to know where my limit is. (Yes, you are right) Where my limit is. It’s a Q&A with myself. (right) We humans are travelers who just have to keep walking.

3:53 These days, I am thinking about this a lot. When I am working, I have to choose something among many things. And when I decided to walk to Santiago, no one told me what to do as I chose to go there.  The thoughts I have these days are like that “I don’t want to compromise myself” I don’t want to do things just because it gives me more money.

4:25  he is much stronger inside now.  (yes yes, he looks really strong)

4:33 so… are you enjoying your reality now?  No, of course I can’t! (laughing) it’s our humans forever homework.

WITAT

I really enjoyed watching this show!  I usually talk to my mom on Sundays so we were mesmerized by how he would collect plants, flowers and put them in food.  Imagine the years of knowledge and stomachaches! in getting to this level of knowledge.  And the presentation of the food!  Just WOOw!

My favorite part as I stated in Instagram, was when Ilwoo cooked with him, you could tell Ilwoo was trying to learn as much as he could.  He is so earnest!

About his interview, I’m glad he is enjoying his life more.  Savoring it slowly… like food!  Little by little he is trusting life more, letting go of his fears.  But like a good Virgo everything is thought out, weighed and measured… I am surrounded by Virgos, including my mom… and these people leave very little to chance!  It’s too bad, because they miss a lot in always trying to be “sure.”

Oh… And I’m so glad MBN does such a great job in posting videos, posters, promo… just look at the amount of videos in just one show!  We will be very well fed with Bossam Stealing Fate!  Yeah!

Getting Ready for Bossam-Stealing the Fate. Fourth Edition: Haechi, 2019.

April 16, 2021

Hello!  This is the fourth and last edition of Ilwoo’s previous Saeguks.  Haechi. This amazing drama was based on the real life of King Yeonjo.  It was so intense!  And we finally got to see our prince become King!  Let’s begin by remembering what Haechi means…

Haechi is a lion/dragon like mythical creature with scales that people from the Joseon Era believed to be a guardian.  In architecture it would be placed in front of the entrance of palaces as they believed it would protect it from fires.  People also  believed that it protected the people of Hanyang, Seoul’s previous name.  Haechi has been the symbol of Seoul since 2009.  Here it is in front of Gyeongbokgung:

In the drama Jung Ilwoo plays first Prince Lee Geum and then becomes King Yeonjo.  His character along with Yeo-Ji (Go Ara), Park Moon-Soo (Kwon Yool) and Dal-Moon (Park Hoon) look to reform the “Saheonbu” or the Office of Inspection. An entity of justice among other roles and one that looked to reflect the spirit of Haechi as a protectors of the people even if it meant going above the King.

This drama opens with an unforgettable scene.  Do you remember?  Well let’s just say that many of us were Ilwoo starved for two years as he was completing his military service, and this was beyond water in the desert!  ^^ Here it is:

And…

WOOw!!!  Yeah…

These are the posters:

There are so many gorgeous photos of Jung Ilwoo in this drama, it is so hard to choose… here are my favorite outfits.  He wore the following outfit in episode 2, and had a photo shoot:

Stills from Episode 2:

My poor heart can’t take anymore Ilwoo arrows!  ^ ^

Here is a scene from Episode 2:

So cool!!!

Now let’s see him as Crown Prince… so many episodes of purple delight:

Let’s see this part… it’s so funny:

Such a sweetheart!  So proud of his magazine.

Here he is full purple action:

I really liked the parts with these two characters a lot… I loved how the relationship changed from utter dislike to respect.  Has it ever happened to you that a person that you dislike at the beginning becomes one of your best friends?  Sometimes these people who “shake” or worlds and are the hardest to get along with are the ones that we have much to learn from, I like to call them the difficult spiritual exercises!

Now, what comes after the prince… yes the King!  Haechi was such a joy to watch because finally he got to be a  King!  And what a righteous King he was!  There is one scene that I absolutely love, when he gave the speech… do you remember? The scene when Jung Il woo delivers the speech.  The speech was about how someday when he becomes King, he will make landowners pay taxes for the land they own. He is furious because the nobles are making the commoners pay taxes, when they are already working in their land. And it is their work that is feeding and clothing them.

The effect of the sun light, the music, his voice… and all his words in favor of the common people… that’s when he became the King!

Here is that scene:

Though to see him in full King regalia we would have to wait a few more episodes.  He first had to overcome this dreadful part:

Superb acting…!

Then in Episode 18 when we get to see how our lovely Ilwoo become the Crown Prince… what a colorful, beautiful spectacle.  Supreme!  And Jung Ilwoo looked so gorgeous in that royal red!  Let’s just watch it…

And then… he is the King!

Time out… we have to watch this scene…

Oh… my heart!  This kiss is so slow and romantic… though I think I would combust in anticipation!  ^ ^

And last but not least, perhaps the most gorgeous outfit of all…  he looks so, so, profoundly lovely!

And this is another of my favorite scenes in Haechi…

If you are still ravenous… feel free to visit this drama’s page HERE. There are a lot more photos and information.

Now I feel fully prepared to see Ilwoo’s new drama!  I still have no idea where I will watch it…  I just hope I can see it somewhere, because ravenous won’t even begin to describe how I will feel if I have to wait a long time…

Getting Ready for Bossam-Stealing the Fate. Third Edition: The Night Watchman’s Journal (2014)

April 10, 2021

This is Jung Ilwoo’s Third Saeguk (Korean Historical drama).  It aired on MBC from August 4 to October 21, 2014.

These are the posters and some behind the scenes from the poster photo Shoot:

Here is a video of this photoshoot. Notice how caring Ilwoo was of his cohost who had fear of heights.

This is a video from the Script Reading:

And a few photos:

These photos are from the Press Conference:

Now let’s get into the drama… During this drama, Ilwoo wore a very special Hanbok, one where the cloth used to make it was weaved by his mom!  It is so beautiful, here is a memory of that:

And her is a snippet of Episode 5 of him wearing it… so, so lovely he is!  He is with the beautiful actress Seo Yea-ji.

Of all of Jung Ilwoo’s co-stars, the little girl who played the ghost of his mom made for some of  the sweetest scenes.  This little girl was beloved by Ilwoo who even had her come as a guest to his Fan meeting.  Her name is Kang Ji-woo.  Here we can imagine what our dear oppa would be like a father, we are going to see more of this soon in Bossam Stealing the Fate!  Let’s remember Ilwoo with Jiwoo:

The mother often commented in her daughter’s Instagram account how well Ilwoo treated Jiwoo.  I think of all his young co-stars she has been his favorite. WOOndering what this little girl looks like now?  Well she is 13 years old!  Her mom posted these photos of her this year:

I know.. WOOw! Alright!  I wonder if Ilwoo has stayed in touch with her… if there someone that would it would be him!

And now let’s continue enjoying our Oppa… here he is in pink:

And…

Last but not least, here is a treat of the kissing kind.

This is our Oppa first in the scene:

And this is behind the scenes… it is hilarious… just watch:

Yes!  The poor guy fell asleep!  He must have been so tired!  Not even the butterflies of having to kiss an actress kept him awake!

Well, that is all for today!   To read more about this drama, go HERE.

I will leave you with this last photo that he posted in his Tweeter account along time ago!

What a beautiful photo!   What a beautiful man!  ^ ^

Getting Ready for Bossam-Stealing the Fate. Second Edition: The Moon that Embraces the Sun, 2011.

April 2, 2021

The Moon that Embraces the Sun was Jung Il woo’s second historical drama.  It is full of passion, love and sadly for Ilwoo’s character: Prince Yang… pain.  So much pain!  Prince Yang is very special to me… because he is the character that made me fall in love with Ilwoo.  He was really funny at times and so full of love. I think there is always a bit of the real Ilwoo in each of his characters, and I can perceive it a lot in this character.  I still remember the day, I said… wait, what is is the name of the guy who played the prince in that drama… I really liked him…!  And I also remember calling him “Jung 2 woo” … you can see it in my first posts!  ^ ^

So to celebrate I translated one of the many videos that exist of Ilwoo talking behind the scenes of his character.  I really wish I could afford to translate them all…

This is the translation…

해품달

Hello, I am Jung ilwoo, who plays YangMyeong. Nice to meet you.

0:18 over 40% of people watched this drama. How do you feel?

Well, the director also said and they say it’s over 40% of viewing rate and everyone is really happy, and I also got many phone calls from people I know. (what did they say?) well, congratulating on the drama becoming a national popular drama. I got those calls, but in fact, I was shooting many scenes until yesterday so I am out of my mind now.

0:49 I don’t really feel it physically because we do many scenes on a set, in the mountains etc so I can’t really feel how popular it really is. I have some friends living in abroad and when I get calls from them, then I know it is quite popular.

1:10 ha, I am the il ji me(kind of Korean Robin hood).

Then, I am Hobin Rood (just making jokes),

ha, is that so?

1:18 in fact, SuHyun and I are in the same age so we are good friends, but in the drama, we are brothers and we are fighting over one woman. The reason why YangMyeong is alive in because of YeonWoo(the woman), so I am just only looking at her and can give up everything just for her. So even if Suhyun is the brother, I(YangMyeong) doesn’t want to let her go again. So I try to do better with scenes with Suhyun.

2:16 I did well now, but if we actually are rolling, I am sure I will make NG.

2:20 well, I am that kind of person (active and aggressive way of showing attraction) in real life. Yes, in real life, I want to express my feeling honestly.

2:28 Yeah, if I have a person I like, then I actively express my feelings. Well, that doesn’t mean that I am a person who bothers that person with many things.

2:39 well, I think girls will also like it when a guy express honestly and actively instead of saying things indirectly.

3:04 who is the person who makes the shooting fun?

Jaerim looks like a difficult and cold person but he is really weird(in a good way)

~Inaudible gibberish~

3:30 He is like someone from another planet, and he has good unexpected attractiveness. I did last drama with him, so we are close. Suhyun is also from another planet.

3:49 our drama has 2 weeks left now. There is a big surprise during the 2 weeks so please keep watching it. Please love YangMyeong till the end. I will do my best to finish the work well. Thank you!

These are two of the posters of this drama:

Also new… I found these gifs… they are so cool… made from the posters:

So cool… I really want to learn to make those!

And now let’s delight in some of the absolutely stunning images of Ilwoo as Prince Yang:

Let’s end this post with music… a fan created this video dedicated to Prince Yang…

May GOD bless you!
