Following this Press Conference, Jung II-woo attended the 4th Japan-Korea Friendship Festa. Various artists were invited, but Jung II-woo was the ultimate guest of honor. This Festa looks to raise funds for various projects that can potentially enrich the life of poor children in various countries in Asia. This particular event’s raised funds served the children on Nepal, in building a library for them. That is what Jung II-woo referred to in the last photo, as he was to auction some personal items during the Festa.

“Originally I went to the tourist spots to look for him, but no luck. I found a source which had the location of his twitter pic. I went there on Friday for 4 hours but no luck. I went back yesterday with a friend and waited another 1 hour 30 minutes and no luck. I told my friend that maybe we should look at the local food court where there’s a lot of tourists. No luck.
Then, my friend suggested looking at the diner across the street since Koreans seem to like diners and then we should give up. I agreed and crossed the street.
When we passed a French restaurant I saw an Asian guy sitting outside with 2 Korean girls. I saw the sunglasses and hair cut and I shook my friend and I was like, “No way, no way, is that him? i think its him? OMG!!” My friend was like, “I think its him too.”
Then the guy spoke in Korean and when I heard his voice, I was like, “It’s him! It’s him!”
While my friend was still studying whether it was him or not. I flew to him like a rocket and took out my Sun and Moon OST CD, and a sharpie. I said, “Excuse me,” and held up my cd and pointed to it. I then said, “Sign please.” I didn’t know how good his English was, so silly me thought the easiest way to communicate with him was to hold up my Sun and Moon OST and point to it LOL.
Well, he was willing to sign. He asked me how to spell my name.
My friend went behind me and took out a NYC postcard I offered to her and asked him if he could sign too and he agreed. I asked if a pic was okay, then he looked at his manager or staff lady. She shook her head and then he said sorry no. i took out a gift I bought him and he took it. then he offered to shake my hand and my friend’s hand.
Before I left, I told him that I hope he likes NYC. He smiled and waved his hand to us for good bye. He was wearing sunglasses so did not see his eyes. My friend did say he looked surprised or shocked, like “Huh? How did these people find me?”
We then went off towards the subway like two giddy school girls.
I told my friend later that I really wanted to take pics and she say why not sneak across the street to do so and we did. I felt like I was being a thief and I was sweating bullets because I saw Il Woo and the staff look across the street sometimes, but I told myself who cares, once in a life time chance to take pics of him.
He was also spotted in Koreatown…!
I guess his staff was really tough about photos, they didn’t want a bunch of people following them around!

I actually discovered a whole section of Korean Beauty Products in a CVS near my Gym! CVS is like the biggest pharmacy chain here (at least in Massachusetts). It’s like a pharmacy and convenience store combined. I could not believe it! How long had that been there and I had never noticed it! So I bought a couple of products to try… one of them from Holika Holika…it’s a CERA cream…I like it except it smells like soap. The other is a cleanser… it definitely smells better!
I also bought a Panda mask… I don’t really use face masks so it felt really weird… I could feel my face drinking!!! 🙂
Happy White Day! Today is sort of like a Valentine’s Day in various Asian countries including South Korea, except it is the men that give chocolates and other treats to the women. (Valentine’s is when the women give the men chocolates.) And this is a treat…!
Today we are having a really white day in Boston! We are expecting 12 to 18 inches of snow! Something like 30 to 40 cms! It’s what we call “whiteout conditions!” All schools and universities are closed. So I have the day off!

I asked why and someone mentioned Jo Min-ki’s death. I went immediately to search for information…and found out about all the horrible details. Another fan shared THIS article with me.

Jo Min-ki the actor who had played Jung II-woo’s father in the drama Golden Rainbow had committed suicide. He had been dealing with accusations of sexual harassment by many female students (the number is now 20). His wife had found him hanging in the basement, a suicide note left behind where he tried to apologize to the victims and acknowledged his wrong doings.
In Instagram we fans tried to help Ilwoo by posting all sort of comforting posts. I think we were comforting each other too. By Saturday I woke up to the full swing of hate messages on his last posted photo. I could not believe it!!! “The haters” were going about how Jung II-woo was supporting a sex offender! UNBELIEVABLE! We all tried in our own ways to explain and help with the situation… he is mourning the loss of a colleague! in the case of Jung II-woo he had worked a long time with this actor. Around 30 episodes of a drama?! And a lot of the scenes were with him! Doesn’t a person have the right to mourn another? He is a human being! How about his wife? Seriously?
In Instagram we fans that usually post there took turns sending a lot of support messages, trying to overcome all that hate in Jung II-woo’s feed… at one point we were sending flowers, hearts as we were tired in trying to explain anything anymore.

I thought so many things at this time… How cowardly Jo Min-ki had acted, but also how much pressure he must have endured to do such a thing! But my saddest thought was this man’s wife finding him dead. She was left alone to deal with all the shame of her husband’s doings. So in the end…another woman looses.
I read an article that talked about how this Jo Min-ki was one of various men accused of sexual harassment as a consequence of the # metoo movement in South Korea. And yes, this had caused waves, big ones in such a patriarcal society like the Korean society, but was having a terrible backslash on the women itself. According to this article, men were discriminating against women office workers… they would not go out drinking with them anymore, and many women were getting left behind from business trips, as the men found it dangerous to take a woman as they might accuse them of something. I find this amazing as my previous post was about women and their status! And if this is what it takes, then so be it… I’d rather have the dignity of my body over drinking and business trips! Thank you very much!

Then I received a message of jungilwoo_world. She said that Jung II-woo had erased many of his posts. It said 48 photos!!! of his 84 ones! I went to his IG and I saw the number was even lower…33, and the number was going down. I wrote back to her “he’s deleting them now!!!” and we both witnessed how he kept deleting…and deleting. I started crying… number 13… no…!!! one left… “The Pieta” one…oh my god no!!! I still think of this as my saddest Jung II-woo moment ever… I will never forget the anguish I felt…the helplessness. The only thing that comforts me now, is that I along with jungilwoo_world were connected with him in this sad moment. And as I was crying…he may have been crying too… and he was not alone. A very tormenting period came after…of letting everyone know… my writing was a disaster… I forgot to give enough information so fans kept asking “What happened!?!” I tried writing something more complete in the post text…and it wasn’t until I wrote a post for Facebook that I finally had gotten my head back again. We were also trying to rally people from different fan groups (Smilwoo, Thailand Fans) to send letters of support to Jung II-woo. This was spearheaded by jungilwoo_world and emilykwcheung. They are still trying to put a group of fans together so if you read this contact them via Instagram. We really want to show Jung II-woo all the support we can in this moment.
When I think of him I feel really sad. Jung II-woo has such a gentle noble nature. He is competitive but he is so kind. He is a class act! I can tell you this in all veracity as I have been reading and researching about him for the past year. This man is a good man! He did not deserve such a treatment. This situation must have made him feel so sad. So angry with himself. And I know that part of the reason why he deleted all his photos is because he could not stand to see the grief he was causing his fans. And he did the right thing I think in this deleting all of his photos, and as painful as it was…it puts an end to it. I personally learned first hand how bad things can get for a public figure in one instant! It’s really scary! This perhaps may protect him in the future as he will be much more careful in the future of what he says and does. But…
…when I think of all his beautiful photos… and how free he communicated… I find it heartbreaking. To me it’s like his voice has been silenced. He will be so much more guarded in the future… he cares so much! He was one of the few artists that truly communicated with his fans all over the world through Instagram, Facebook and Tweeter. (To a lesser extent in this moment as he is doing his Civic duties.) And he shared all kinds of photos of his life with fans.
Fortunately I had taken photos of all of Jung II-woo’s Instagram posts… way back in December of 2016 when he had 100 photos. I will post them in a page in this website… your beautiful photos are not lost to us…nor is your voice!

Jung II-woo know that I (and many of us) support you. I stand with you in this sad moment. Please stand strong. Don’t be hard on yourself. Do not apologize to anyone! You did nothing wrong! You felt sorry for this man that took his life… that you once knew … these were your honest feelings of sorrow! Your intention was good…we all know that… and this too shall pass! Surf that big wave… dear brother!!! It will start getting smaller in time… be patient. Notes on the Status of Women in South Korea
I decided to do a little investigating into what the status of women in South Korea. And what I found was some really hard to digest information.
Women in South Korea have a strong start into the the job world… as there is are more women attending universities then men and the men have to do their military service. However there is a lot of discrimination and women can’t aspire in many cases to the positions occupied traditionally by men. Many companies choose not to hire women, especially when married as they foresee the “interruptions’ of child bearing activities in their future.
Korean women comprise 19.4 percent of lawyers, 23.9 percent of doctors, and 23 percent of university professors. The discrepancy is even more pronounced in terms of leadership positions. The Wall Street Journal reports that of the 1,787 companies listed on South Korea’s stock exchange, only 13 are headed by female CEOs (and four of those women are directly related to the companies’ founding families). Women occupy only 8.8 percent of senior civil service positions, which is notable because in 2015, 46 percent of those who passed the civil service exam were women.” Cr. The Diplomat

Status of Women in the USA
Here in the United States, we women are doing better in general, but still…there are some incredible gaps between the life a woman can lead when compared to that of a man in general. When I learned some of these figures I was so sickened and disgusted! Take a look at this:
The harassment girls and women have to endure to become educated in this country… and this doesn’t include the university years! Then once you survive this, this is what you end up with:
Isn’t this just great?!!! Arghhhhhhh! And even though we were becoming stronger in the work force peaking at 61% at one point, now there is a diminishing trend…

One of the detriments to women being able to stay in the labor market here in the USA is the lack of access to child care and paid family leave.

WITAT (What I think about this.)
Ha…I think I expressed my feelings a lot up top…but this is more personal stuff…
My mom gave me the best gift, her mom gave her as well: EDUCATION. My grandmother (Venezuelan) was a young mom at the age of 15. She had 6 children and to all of them but especially her 4 girls she would say “Estudie hija mia, para que usted no tenga que depender de nadie, y pueda hacer lo que usted quiera de su vida!” Which translates to “Study daughter of mine, so you can make of your life what you want and not have to depend on anyone.” She only studied until 6th grade. Luckily for me, my mom listened and my mom not only was the only one to attend college in her family, but she even went on to earn a master’s degree! She sure made my grandmother proud!
So my mom’s expectations for me and my sister were very high, she pushed us so hard! Now I understand why… And this is my recommendation to any young woman reading this… STUDY! as my mom said to me: “Love can wait until you are educated and have a career…and just in case Love doesn’t work out then you can have a career that gives direction and meaning to your life… and most importantly economic freedom.”
I’m glad I listened too… Now I hope my little twin nieces hear my sister!
I guess I’ll be spending a very white Woman’s Day at home… they have closed all schools in the Boston area and vicinity, as we have another huge snow storm coming… in some areas they are predicting 2 feet of snow…that’s 60cms!!!
But I’ll wear something purple!!! The color purple represents Justice and Dignity for all women around this world. And I plan on marching on March 24th along with students in “The March of Our Lives.” But I’ll leave this topic for another day… I need to catch some zzzzzzzzzz!

He has things that KSH doesn’t have, and vice versa. So they are really able to learn very much from each other. When they act together, the act as if their lives are at stake. In a separate interview, he said that KSH is the first actor that he wants to work with again in the future.
5. He’s planning on going on a trip with Song Jae RIm and KSH sometime mid-April when they’ll have some free time. Destination is secret
6. THe scene where Woon fights off warriors outside of YM’s house when YM was on house arrest took 9 hours because SJR is pretty bad when it comes to kinesthetics —which JIW finds amusing since Woon is supposed to be Joseon’s genius warrior/athlete.
7. It took them around 4 days to film YM’s death scene.
A different interview
1. For the past 6 months, he hasn’t had any vacation since he filmed FBRS and MS back to back. Specially during MS, he didn’t have time to spend with his family. WHen he watched the final ep his mom and his sister were crying, he then felt that ” I really died, ( LOL)”. But he himself did not cry while watching it because he saw the edited version many times before. Originally, YM had a narration part during his death scene. But JIW didn’t like the idea and advocated against it, so finally the director took out the narration ( this was from another interview). Anyway, that is why he saw the death scene many times since they were recording the narration along with it.
2. When asked how he chooses what roles to play, he said that of course he takes into consideration who he is going to work with. But in the end, he decides after reading the script whether he could see himself disappearing into the role. But for YM, his mom and his sister highly recommended it to him. His mom watched ” Dragon’s Tears” before, and she said that there was this character called Yang Nyon who was very similar to YM. His mom wanted to see him play a role like that.
3. Normally if he had time, he would prepare for roles by reading/studying the script. But he did not have time, so he watched SKK ( amuses me that he watched this^^) and Dragon’s Tears –other works by the author of MS.
4. When asked how his experience doing Iljimae helped him during MS, JIW said that ” of course, I had a lot of know-how”–he was referring to the fact that he knew that shooting it would be cold. So after he was casted, he spent 3days and 4 nights shopping for goods that will keep him warm. Like, he’d wear 4-5 layers of underwear and attached 10 packs of Kairo ( packets that you attached to your skin or clothing that’ll keep you warm–has iron fillings –IDK how you call these in English or Korean, so I’m using the Japanese term for it). He further remarked that since HGI and KSH were noobs at filming sageuk they were ill-prepared for the cold, so he gave them lots of “presents” and JIW laughs at himself while saying this.
5. The interviewer remarked about his beautiful skin..JIW said that due to being so busy with filming MS, there was a point there were he couldn’t wash his face for 10 days. So when he went back to Seoul, he had to go to a dermatologist to get his skin treated.
6. After filming 49 days, he didn’t have enough rest before doing FBRS and his physical condition got worse since he did MS right after FBRS. He was so busy that he hardly had time to even go to the cafeteria to eat. When he was filming FBRS, he wasn’t able to eat even a single bowl of ramyun. But during MS, he ate about 100 bowls of it. After, when he went to an Eastern medicine doctor, they gave him medicine that seniors in high school take ( highly stressful time). He admits that he really had a hard time since he maxed out his body.

9. Before he would act by studying the script, but during MS, he became one with YM–he feels that this role improved his acting skills.
10. When asked about his future plans, he said that he really wants to rest. But he has to go back to school because he needs to graduate by next year.
FBRS News
Due to the success of its cable showing in Japan and high-interest for JIW, FBRS will be shown on regular Japanese tv channel TBS in June in the Kantou area ( Tokyo and surroundings), It will also be available for rental by June 6.
There is a probability that MS will be shown on NHK ( Japanese national tv).
JIW said that after reading MS, he thought YM was the character that had the most impact. And the scene that showed this impact was his death. He said that it all begins and ends with YM’s death, in the sense that the narrative achieves its resolution with YM’s death and that Hwon and YW could really be together safely after YM’s sacrifice. I forgot who wrote the same thing, was it javabeans?–that the reason why JIW chose MS was for the death scene, now we have confirmation from JIW that the death scene was a crucial part of YM’s existence–in the sense that YM existed so he could die.
He’s also an actor that does not rely on personal experience to act. For example, he did not tap into his personal sad experiences to depict YM. Rather, he’s the type who immerses himself into the script and creates his character as he acts with other actors. He learned this way of acting from Lee Sunjae ( grandpa in High Kick).
He learned a lot by acting with KSH. He said that very scene he had KSH was great. He himself is a passionate actor. But KSH also is very passionate and there was that level of competition when they both acted. Off screen, they got along well ( one factor was age) and joked around. But when the camera started rolling, they both brought a fierceness so powerful that the staff would remark, ” What’s up with you guys?” ^^He said that KSH is really a great actor and the fact that KSH is such a good actor at that age inspired him to do better. He said that he totally agrees with everyone’s good evaluation of KSH’s acting prowess. He also said that what he doesn’t have that KSH does is KSH’s voice quality and ability to deliver/act through voice.
