Jung Ilwoo walking El Camino. Part 2.

February 27, 2021

¡Hola!

This post is really long to read but totally worth it!   I found a lot of the places that Ilwoo visited and one where he even stayed at…  I hope that it helps you enjoy his walk more closely while learning a bit more about the many sites.

This video, the second part covered 5 days between Ponte de Lima and Vigo.  It started with Ilwoo opening a bottle of wine in a very interesting way!  Let’s just say it took a lot of leg work! ^ ^

Sadly, right after this we began to see Ilwoo suffer.  He got a cold sore on his bottom lip.   And he had put some medication that maybe was not really meant to be applied on lips.  Poor Ilwoo!

Later we get to delight in watching him cook.  He felt they had not been eating properly so that’s in part why their bodies were suffering.

The next day we get up to see Ilwoo turn the beef he had marinated the previous night into a scrumptious breakfast.

And he prepares lunch… a very spicy sandwich!  I could not eat that!

They set out towards Tui, Spain.

To experience a bit of Ponte de Lima HERE is this Pharmacy site. It’s a bit more rundown in Google Maps. THIS is a pharmacy photo spot also on Google Maps.

They went to get their passports stamped at the Tourist Visitor center:

“Ponte de Lima is one the oldest towns in Portugal, founded on 4 March 1125. It was historically significant as a Roman settlement on the road from Braga to Santiago de Compostela and Lugo, and the first place in Portugal getting a municipal charter.”  Cr. Wikipedia

Ilwoo and his friends walked along the Lima river and  got this gorgeous view of The Ponte de Lima, bridge.  The bridge actually still contains five arches from the old Roman bridge which presumably dates back to the 1st century. These form a section which now runs over dry ground on the opposite bank of the river to the town.

Roman Legend of Ponte de Lima:

“It is said that during the Roman occupation of Portugal the forces stationed here found a worrying resemblance between the River Lima and the River Lethe (or River of Forgetfulness) , one of the five mythical rivers of the Underworld. They feared if they drank or tried to cross the river it would completely erase their memories.

In the year 138 BC the story goes that a Roman legion stopped at the river, refusing to cross. Eventually General Decimus Junius Brutus took the decision to quash the superstition once and for all and made the crossing himself. Admittedly he was on a horse, but this was enough to encourage his men to take the plunge. However, just to be sure they had not in fact lost their minds to “Oblivion” they were made to shout out their own names as they crossed the river.

To commemorate this tale there are now statues of a Roman phalanx on one side of the river with the general on horseback, encouraging them across, on the other.”

This is a photo from the same website:

So beautiful!  And this is a statue of the Roman General:

Cr. http://www.oneroadatatime.com

Wait was that General Jung?

The church on the far side is called San Antonio Da Torre Velha Church!  How perfect!  His Saint!  Actually Ilwoo was in the perfect place to find many churches named after his Saint as Saint Anthony was born in Portugal!  He is one of Portugal’s most revered Saints.

HERE you can experience the area around the church with a beautiful view of the town of Ponte de Lima.  These are other photos via Google Maps:

You can actually go inside of it… and look out the window!!!

And onward they continued towards Tui…

I felt so bad for Ilwoo’s manager.  He had a nose bleed right when he was eating!  I’ve been there…!

This moment was probably my favorite in this video.  Ilwoo was so happy he basically danced his way into Spain!   It makes me so happy when he is happy!

I found out that the river’s name is Minho!  That’s right like Lee Min-ho!  ^ ^. I wonder if Oppa thought of his friend the first time he saw that!   The meaning of Minho in portuguese is “mine.”

HERE you can feel like you are there and wonder around and even cross the bridge with Google Maps.  Just move until you see an arrow pointing towards the bridge and go!   SO great!  This bridge is called: Tui-Valença International Bridge.

Ilwoo took this photo he posted in his instagram right on the other side:

HERE in Google Maps.

Tui started off as a Roman settlement called Tude.   The current oldest parts of Tui’s walls were built during the reign of King Ferdinand and date back to the 12th century. Of these only one original gate remains, called “Pia”.     Cr. http://www.galiciaguide.com

This is the Cathedral of Tui,  Santa Maria de Tui:

Cr. inspirorock.com

This Cathedral is a late-Romanesque and Gothic-style Roman Catholic church. It is located at San Fernando square, in the center of the town. It sits on the highest part of the town so it is visible from various parts of town.

“Construction began in the 12th century and the North portal and layout derive from this age. The main facade (1225) however is of a later Gothic style. The main chapel located in the choir was completed in 1699 by Castro Canseco. The interior has a large prominent “Retablo de la Expectacion”, and a large altar of relics in the Chapel of the Relics. The cloister is in Gothic style.”       Cr. Wikipedia

You can enjoy it in Google Maps HERE.

Jung Il woo and his friends enjoyed dinner …

And the next day continued on to Redondela, 35 Kms away.

But Ilwoo’s friends decided to take train at O Porriño, but Ilwoo walked.  Here he is saying goodbye to them…

Here is Ilwoo’s walk and stop at Mos… for refreshment.

He saw kids riding mini motorcycles… I tried finding this but I was not able to.

Oppa made it into Redondela and met his friends.  In the next scene we see them as they mentioned “walking like grandfathers”!   “zombies’!

At Redondela they take it easy for a bit and around the town.

HERE you can feel you are walking down the street with Ilwoo.  It’s called Rua Alfonso XII.  The place with the red rug is  the place they are passing on the first photo.  Then they see a festival.  That happens HERE at Praza La Constitución (Constitution Square) , or if you walk down the street from the previous link you will see it just like Oppa in the next capture:

They have a nice meal.

I was able to find this Albergue!  See the door sign on the previous capture? ^ ^  It is right HERE.  Though you can see photos in that link, here are two:

Cr. Google Maps

I wonder if this photo Ilwoo posted back in 2019 is from this Albergue:

They decide to take a day off to heal and head to Vigo towards the coast.  There they enjoy some great views!

They venture around the town and find a Chinese Place where they decide to have a meal.

I found this place… the movie theater, but it looks so different as it was under construction when Google visited!   It’s HERE.

This is a photo he posted in his Instagram and they showed right about here i the video…

What a view!

I was able to find this restaurant but it was not easy as it is behind scaffolding for the construction of the year Google took this in 2019. (See photo below)  Much to my surprise the name of the street was called “Rua de Venezuela” or Venezuela Street!  I couldn’t believe it!  That is the country where I was born! And Oppa chose to walk there!!!   And I almost fell off my chair when I saw this:

I thought it was at number 13!  As you can see that’s what the sign in brown said… but it was really at 11!   ^ ^

This is a view of the street:This is an older photo from almost the same perspective from 2017 before the construction:

Cr. Google Maps

This is a great aereal view of part of Venezuela street.

After their Chinese meal they walked along the Port of Vigo and Ilwoo captured some nice views!

Do you want to walk around the port too?  Sadly, in that platform of the port where he was there are not blue tracks to walk, but you can enjoy a photo spot right HERE.  It is so great…!

In Vigo, the main Cathedral is actually a C0-Cathedral with Tui’s Cathedral.  The original church was rebuilt in neo-classical style after being burnt down by Francis Drake’s soldiers in 1585.  You can explore it HERE.

This is its facade:

Inside it looks like this:

After walking they had probably one if not the best meal so far.  Seafood delicacy!

Sadly, our poor Oppa can’t even properly suck in his oysters because of his busted lip!  I love his spirit… he makes the best of it.  Good food always makes him so happy!  ^ ^

And off they go towards Pontevedra!

See you next time!!!

I searched the music… as I could here in my head that constant “The Future is NOW”… so here is that song:

But the one I really love is this one:

I had heard it before… but never looked into it!  Go it in my library at last!  Are you having a good day?  I hope this post helped a bit!

WITAT

As I looked at Vigo, Venezuela Street seemed to be one of  biggest roads in it. This made me curious… Why is it so prominent?   I found out that Venezuelans make up the number one group of immigrants in this town.  This is due to the fact that many Galicians from here and other towns nearby left to settle in Venezuela in the 1950’s. Spain was under a severe economic crisis and   Their children now middle aged adults left Venezuela (because of the terrible economy) and gone back to their parent’s land… Galicia as they enjoy double citizenship.

I also read something that made me sad.  Many of these Venezuelans were professionals such as doctors, engineers, etc in Venezuela, but due to the mess of the current Venezuelan Government they can’t get their Degree Titles Officially Stamped and Translated, so they have no way to prove to the Spanish Government the validity of their degrees.  So they are stuck working doing anything to get by.  Some have opted to study again… can you imagine?!

I’m so thankful my sister left in time… her Doctor Title was completely validated by the Spanish Government and they hired her as a doctor.  Phew!  I always remind myself of this when I miss my family.  We have so much to be thankful for!  My sister is now a Spanish Citizen, and my nieces are Spanish-Venezuelans.  I think it’s good to have dual citizenship, you never know if way in the future Venezuela ends up being a better place for my nieces!  Tomorrow never knows!

THIS is one of the articles I read.

May GOD bless Venezuelans living all over this wide world including Venezuela!  I pray I can visit there again someday.  My last time was in 2008.  That’s right… 13 years ago!

February 21, 2021

On February 12, 2021, Jung Ilwoo started to share something very precious to him: a video with the first episode of His Third walk to Santiago de Compostela, the Portuguese Central Way.

This walk took place in May of 2019.  He walked from Porto in Portugal.

Today marks the start of the Fourth year of this website!  WOO Hoo! and I’m so happy to be celebrating it by writing and sharing this post.  This post about one of the things this lovely man loves to do the most… walk his beloved Santiago way.  It has been such a ¡Buen Camino! being with you Ilwoo!  Learning because of you!  You show up, manifest in my life when I least expect it… and I am not surprised anymore… I just say… I love you too!  So now let me love you the best way I know how… by creating this post.

Here he is in Seoul heading out to Spain…

And here he is in Lisbon, the Capital of Portugal.  He actually flew into Lisbon and then continued the next day to Porto.

This is one of the main squares of Lisbon!  It’s called Plaza Rossio.  Love that yellow bandana on his neck!  THis is how I knew it was Lisbon.  I did a search for that Tezenis store and found it in Lisbon only.

Tezenis, Lisbon Cr. Google Maps.png

Do yo want to feel like you are there?  This is the Google Map LINK.  You can move around the entire area … and picture our dear Oppa enjoying it!   My family vacationed there a week before he went, in April of 2019!  They said one of the coolest things in Lisboa was the floor, there are mosaics everywhere!  My nieces enjoyed them a lot!  Here is one of them running.

This is a photo my mom took from a Mirador, or high tower there called Elevador de Santa Justa:

Jung Il woo took a train to Porto, and the first image we see after the big letters that say Porto is the train station of “Porto São Bento.”

This is what the station looks like on the outside…

Cr. Wikipedia

It is absolutely majestic on the inside.  Its vestibule contains some of the most impressive “azulejos” or painted blue tiles in the world.  This station is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it is a National Monument of Portugal.

“This building was constructed over a number of years, starting in 1904, based on plans by architect José Marques da Silva. The large panels of azulejo tile were designed and painted by Jorge Colaço; they were completed in 1916 and the station was then inaugurated.[3] The murals represent moments in the country’s history and the multicolored panels depict rural scenes showing the people of various regions.”

“There are approximately 20,000 azulejo tiles, dating from 1905–1916, that were composed by Jorge Colaço, an important painter of azulejo. The actual tiles were made in the Sacavém factory.[5] Colaço placed the first tiles on 13 August 1905.[5] To the left of the entrance is a scene depicting the Battle of Arcos de Valdevez and Egas Moniz before Alfonso VII of Castile, while to the right, is D. João I in Oporto, with his fiancé, and the Conquest of Ceuta. On the border wall at the entrance are small panels depicting countryside scenes. The tile project required 11 years to complete.”  Cr. Wikipedia

Cr. Novocom.top

A video…

We see him greet his manager and best friend Joo Yoonsuk with a high five and then they sit down to have a meal and beer…

They did not venture far… in fact they are right in front of the train station:

Do you see the restaurant with the brown tables and chairs?  That’s where they ate!  It’s called: Sabores de Invicta,  Google Map Exact location HERE.

Can you guess from the menu what Oppa ate?

That’s right, our Oppa went straight for the Steak on plate!  ^ ^

The next photo is from where they slept.  I found it!  Right HERE.  It is the green building, if you turn around you will see Ilwoo’s view from the street!  I think it must have been airbnb special as the building does not say hotel on it…

Address: R. de Mouzinho da Silveira 318 or 320/ 4050-418 Porto, Portugal

Then they headed to get their Pilgrim Passports at the Porto Cathedral.  This is what it looks like. He posted this photo back in 2019 in his Instagram.

The Porto Cathedral, known there as Se Do Porto was built in the 12th Century in the Romanesque Style. It was built by Bishop Hugh, a French nobleman who came to Porto even before Portugal’s independence, and ruled the city from 1113 to 1136.    It sits high a hill and that is why you see Ilwoo going up slanted streets and stairs.

These are photos from the Cathedral.

So gorgeous!

The Cathedral (Se Do) and its large square (Largo da Sé) sit in the middle of the historic center of Porto and it is a Unesco World Heritage Site. This square filled with vendors during the middle ages.

I found a site that has many photos about what to see in the cathedral and tips on how to get there : HERE.  This is a video fro this site:

This is a longer video, if you have time: (30 minutes)

In this last video there is this part the narrator reads and below you can see Oppa walking by it!

Here is another photo of the large square:

This ornately carved twisting stone pillory is called a “pelourinho” by the Portuguese. This pillory is a reconstruction of a 1797 engraving and was inaugurated in 1945.  I read that in ancient times they would have hung people and tortured them on the rings sticking out, to scare people into behaving! There are many pillories all over Portugal… that must have been so scary for children!

I was fascinated by the Azulejos all over Porto and found this great wordpress sister website that talks all about them:

The best places to see azulejo tiles in Porto

That night they went to walk along what is referred to as Ribeira: the riverbank walkway along the side of the Douro River.  There was a beautiful full moon!

A bit more about this place:

“Ribeira is one of the most popular neighborhoods in Porto. It is one of the most authentic and picturesque parts of the city in the heart of the old town. As its name suggests, the district is situated on the riverbank (Ribeira in Portuguese stems from the word river).

Its colorful and wonderfully decorated façades are noteworthy and you’ll find that both the quaint terraced houses on the waterfront that reflect on the Douro River (which you can get a better view from Gaia) and the rest of the buildings further up in the little winding streets are equally pleasant.

Charming by Night

This part of town becomes alive at nighttime and is the perfect place to spend your evenings. Ribeira is full of traditional restaurants with lively terraces where you can savor some of Portugal’s delicious typical dishes while you enjoy views over Dom Luís I Bridge and Vila Nova da Gaia with its cellars lit up. ”

Here are some beautiful photos… as seen from Gaia across the river:

Cr. Touropia.com

Directly across the river is a place that wine lover Ilwoo would love to visit.  It’s a town called: Vila Nova de Gaia and it known for its cellars where Port wine was stored for hundreds of years when the wine was moved by water.  This video is good to get a sense of the history:

It has English subtitles!  But I love hearing her speak in Portuguese!

Look at this old photo of the port wine being loaded into boats:

Cr. portoalities.com

Cr. touropia

All this part of Portugal was influenced in their names by the Celts:

“Vila Nova de Gaia already existed under the Roman Empire as the city of Cale. It developed most likely from a preexistent Celtic Castro, or Neolithic settlement. The origin of the name Cale[4] (or Gale, since in Classical Latin there was not always a clear distinction between the letters “g” and “c”) is likely Celtic, from the root “Gall-” with which Celts referred to themselves, similarly to Galicia, Gaul or Galway. The river itself has a Celtic name, Douro (Latinised Durus) after Celtic “dwr”, deep water, water or river. In Roman times the bulk of the population probably lived south of the river Douro, and on the north side, there was a smaller settlement around the deep water port which now is the Ribeira neighbourhood of Porto. The name of Porto, in high medieval times Portus Cale, thus stood for the harbour (“portus” in Latin) of the city of Cale. With the important trade of the river Douro, which is easily navigable up to the Régua deep inland, the Porto part of the city came to overgrow Cale, and became the most important part of town, where the Bishopric and the merchants were established.”          Cr. Wikipedia

The next morning they had breakfast near their hotel and then headed to the Cathedral to get their first stamp!

Ilwoo Oppa is so happy to begin his walk!

They make one last stop at a bookstore where a bit of Harry Potter was “filmed.”  There were no scenes of Harry Potter filmed in Porto or Portugal.  But J.K. Rowling lived for a period of her life in Porto and there is the believe that a few of Porto locations, including this bookstore helped to inspire her story of Harry Potter.

This bookstore is known as the Livraria Lello e Irmão or Livraria Chadron.  It is so, so gorgeous… take a look:

This library was founded in 1869 by the Frenchman Ernesto Chardron and opened to the public in 1881 for the first time.  It’s architect was: Francisco Xavier Esteves.  The reason why it has so many names is for all the people that helped develop it.  It is considered one of the most gorgeous bookstores in the world.

If you are a Harry Potter Fan there is a brief history and relation of J.K Rowling to Porto and the sites that inspired her book HERE.  She wrote three of the books in Portugal!

They meet a friend of Ilwoo’s: Lee Young Jae.  He provides great Drone views!!!

Is it hot or is it just me?!  ^ ^

They get to their hotel and freshen up… and of course discuss dinner.

Did you notice?  His underwear drying on his bed!  (TMI!!! We now know what king of briefs he likes… he is not a boxers man!  ^ ^  Or maybe it’s because of the heat?)

Then they go grocery shopping…

This part was hilarious… his embarassed manager has no chance with Ilwoo’s charming kindness!

For more about porto and where to go visit HERE.

They visit to the Cathedral of Braga to get their stamp and blessings!  This Cathedral is the oldest in Portugal and one of the oldest in the Iberian Peninsula.  Here is some of its history:

“The Diocese of Braga dates from the 3rd century AD, being one of the oldest in the peninsula and the centre for the Christianism of Galicia (Northwestern Iberia).

Saint Peter of Rates or of Braga, is traditionally considered to be the first bishop of Braga between the years 45 and 60. Tradition says he was a Jew that had recently died when Saint James the Great was in the area. The Apostle knowing him to be a man of intelligence and good will had him resurrected from the grave and ordained him to preach the glory of Christ. The same tradition holds that Peter of Rates was martyred while attempting to make converts to the Christian faith in northern Portugal.

When Roman power was being dissolved by invading Germanic tribes, Braga (then called Bracara Augusta) became the capital of the Suebi Kingdom (409 to 584). Bishop Martin of Dumio, a great religious figure of the time, converted the Suebi to Catholicism around 550. The importance of Braga diminished during Visigoth times, and after the arrival of the Moors (716) it lost its bishop seat.

The bishopric of Braga was restored around 1071, after the city was back into Christian hands, and Bishop Pedro started to build a cathedral, consecrated in 1089 (only the Eastern chapels were finished). Starting in 1093, the County of Portugal was ruled by Count Henry of Burgundy who, together with Bishop Geraldo de Moissac, managed to convince the Pope to turn Braga into an archbishopric in 1107. The archbishop of Braga had power over a large region in Northwestern Iberia, including most of Portugal and part of Galicia, in today Spain.

Construction on the cathedral was then resumed and lasted until the middle of the 13th century, but the details are obscure. The original 12th century-building was built in the Burgundian Romanesque style of the monastery church of Cluny. It influenced many other churches and monasteries in Portugal in that period. In later times the cathedral was greatly modified so its a mix of Romanesque, Gothic, Moorish, Manueline and baroque styles. Particularly important were the addition of new chapels and the entrance gallery in gothic style, the new Manueline main chapel, and the various additions in baroque times like the towers, chapels and much inner decoration.

The cathedral as the most important religious site in Iberia (before the founding of Santiago of Compostela and the reconquest of Toledo from Muslim hands) was an extremely powerful institution at the time and enjoyed a great degree of influence in the papal court.”

Bonus?  Of course!  Here are a few more of Oppa’s photos from this trip… I don’t really know where to place them so…

Thank you for sharing your life with me…!  with us!  May you be able to have another Buen Camino very soon!  May God bless you!

Happy Valentine’s Day 2021!

February 14, 2021

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I wish you a day full of love…  not just today… everyday!

I think love begins inside of us… if we don’t love ourselves, we really can’t love anyone else. One way I have been loving myself is by trying to balance all aspects of my being: my body, my mind and my spirit. To nourish my spirit I have been meditating in various ways and at various times of the day. Lately, I have been into what I call art-meditation. This basically means that I use color pencils, watercolors, markers, and acrylics and paint thoughtlessly while listening to very calming meditative music.  It helps a lot to relieve stress and be more centered.

This is why I am also posting once a week (or try to)…because I want to have more time to be present… and enjoy the moment. Timelessness…

Dearest Ilwoo, a while ago you posted an upside rainbow reflection image in your stories and that image stayed with me… I kept thinking it was your smile and how it radiated happiness in colors.  I decided to write a poem based on it and I wrote about what the colors reminded me related to you and in general.  I decided to illustrate each color during my art-meditation sessions… even though I was focused on the poem, it was still very relaxing. A time to be away from screens and send you my love… in every color of the rainbow.

Did you feel my colorful love coming to you this past weeks ?  Here is a memory of it with a bit of speed!

Jung Ilwoo in Phone Cleansing

February 12, 2021

This new MBC show aired on February 9.  It was longer than I thought!  It was about an hour and a half!  With about 40 minutes dedicated to the photos of Ilwoo!  Sadly, my phone did not have the space to record the whole thing so it stopped recording without me knowing.  I also missed the last 10 minutes because I had to teach. Thankfully MBC placed some nice videos with the most interesting parts in YouTube. I’m sure as this show gains audience and episodes it will appear in Viki or Kisstvshow.com.  I really want to see it again!  I read that at the end they gave him an album with pictures of his beloved pet dog Awoo.

Update March 18, 2021.  There is a lot of places one can watch this show now.  But it’s still only in Korean.  Still it’s great to see all his photos.  Remember i mentioned his legs with bandaids?  It wasn’t for mosquitos, those are the pain patches he used on his walk of El Camino de Santiago!  So. here are the options for watching this show.  Remember to fight the pop ups Iljimae Style, get back to the original screen!

The hard part was that Ilwoo talked about his photos in Korean and even in those YouTube there are no translations.  So I decided to translate some of these that I was curious about…  I will share one here:

This is the video that I was the most curious about:

Update: 11-4-21. Other videos:

Here is the translation:  (Reminder: If you are copying this or using this as abase to another language translation, do the RIGHT thing and credit this website.)

What is this?

Ilwoo: I went to Santiago pilgrimage route 3 times.

Wow, three times?

How many km did you walk?

Ilwoo: the longest was around 500~600km.

You really did it.

0:14

Many people come to Santiago pilgrimage route.

Santiago pilgrimage route : a route going to Santiago taking 800km, around 40 days.

0:23

Ilwoo: I spent around 6 months preparing this. I wrote down things that was needed for the pilgrimage.

Ah, these are the ones you think you need for the pilgrimage before leaving. You want to make sure everything is detailed!

I can see the brand names for hat, raincoats, etc

0:40 did you choose specific brand names because you have many of them with different brands?

Ilwoo: its not like that. I weighed all the items because I have to carry only one backpack, so I had to make it as light as possible, so I chose brand names of the least heavy items.

*ME:  The list is further down after the conversation.

1:00 How did you end up liking the pilgrimage route? It’s not easy to do once but 3 times?

Ilwoo: I was filming a drama called “golden rainbow” and I had bad headaches, and I went to a hospital and got tested. It turned out that I have a cerebral aneurysm. It’s like a time bomb, so if my blood vessel is expanding then it explodes, then I die. But no one knows when it will blow up.

Ilwoo: when I had that illness, I had serious depression and did not want to meet people. I was staying home for 1 month and I decided to go the Santiago pilgrimage route which I always wanted to go since I was young.

Took a journey with an ill body and heart and walked hundreds of kilometers and learned one lesson.

2:01 An acting work can be done when someone calls me to work, not that I do it just because I want. It’s a job to be chosen by other people so I was nervous but since Santiago, I learned that I have to enjoy each moment.

After walking 500~600km, do you think you are healthier?

Ilwoo: Yes, I think I got very healthy and it’s just a repetitive routine while I am there. Walk, wash, eat, and wake up and eat and walk, wash clothes etc.

WITAT

It was nice mix of food, travel, selfies and family photos.  It was so sweet seeing all his family photos! The ones with his mom… so glad he has spent more time with her recently.  Making up for lost time!   And the one with his manager when they were in school… just wow!  What a beautiful friendship!

I enjoyed seeing all his travel photos.  At one point they showed pictures he had taken in a museum… Louvre?  He is just like me I thought!  Seeing more from his Santiago trip was such a treat.  I have been in Leon too! ^ ^ But… it made me sad to learn that Ilwoo suffers on amnesia even today.  I thought it was only in the moment of the accident. I can only imagine how hard it must be so young and suffer of this.  I’m thankful he has found a way to cope using technology … keeping 70,000 photos to remember!

At times I was surprised with how much Ilwoo was willing to show… the photo with his legs full of bandaids… were those mosquito bites?  That was a bit too much for me… ouch!  Yet, I’m so touched by his humility, his humanity… his ability to open up at times and share these not so pretty aspects of his life… and himself.  I really admire how he shares all that makes him…

Here is a Ñapa! a bonus!  I found another separate batch of videos…  HERE.  I hope you are able to access them in your country.  These are in the official website.

Jung Ilwoo will be in the show “Phone Cleansing” on February 9, 2021

February 5, 2021

Jung Il woo will participate on a new show called “Phone Cleansing” in MBC.  The concept of this show is to basically look into a celebrity phone photos so that this celebrity can share personal stories and events from their lives. And I think they help him organize it?  Or cleanse it?   So basically  Jung Ilwoo will allow us to look into his photos!  I am so curious to see what’s in there!   I’m sure he will share some we have never seen before!  It is so courageous of him to do this even though I’m sure he curated it!  These are all the previews of the show:

WOOw… his days at the senior center! Can’t wait!

I’m sure there will be a LOT of his explosive laughter… one of my favorite sounds!

When and where to watch this show?

This show will air on February 9, 2021.  9:20PM

Because it is a new show there is nothing set up in the usual spots one could venture to see it like Viki Rakuten , or the website kisstvshow.  So your options are:

  1. To be patient and wait for a week or so to be out in the MBC YouTube Channel.
  2. Subscribe to a VPN service for a month and using an application and watch it in the MBC website.  If you don’t understand what a VPN is go HERE.

Here is an article translated about the show:

If the woman, Inna Yoo,  looks familiar to you, is because she is the actress who played the secondary role in The Guardian: The Great and Lonely God.   The one that falls for the devil… I personally loved their story line more than the main one!

Jung Ilwoo in The Queen’s Gambit!

February 5, 2021

That’s right!  This is a special CHESS post!  I loved the Queen’s Gambit so much and I think Ilwoo did too!  So… I remembered the images of Ilwoo’s Chess Photoshoot from 2013 and decided to mix them into The Queen’s Gambit.  This was so fun to do!!!

Anya Taylor-Joy and Jung Il woo are so beautiful in these… it was an absolute delight!  In this post I will place photos I created and edited with hers and his mixed in.  By the way his photos were taken by Bong Young Jang, the photographer with whom he has worked until now.  He is the photographer responsible for the gorgeous shots in his 2021 calendar. Steven Meizler was the cinematographer for The Queen’s Gambit and her gorgeous images here.  So get ready for a CHECK MATE of absolute gorgeous!!!

Before:

After:

She says… “Stop being so melodramatic Ilwoo!  It’s only been like 45 minutes!  The game is almost over!”

This image came from an exhibit at the Union Train Station in Los Angeles.

Oh oh  Ilwoo!  What did you do?

Don’t even try to stare me down!  ^ ^

SO fun!

Actually both of them are pretty good at the staring game…   gulp!

They both seem to be studying their moves…  Ilwoo looks pretty confident… he says “I will beat you with this horse…”

but he spoke way too soon…  Check mate!  His king is toast with this queen!

What is taking him so long with my coffee?  Doesn’t he know I have a game to play?

“It’s about time Ilwoo!”

And last for absolute WOO-JOY:

Yes!  It’s Cha Chi-Harmon carrot delight!   Or simply absolute WOO JOY!    ^ ^

WITAT

Anya Taylor-Joy is an American actress born to Argentinian and British parents!  She is part Latina!  I read a bit about her and she was born in Florida, then spent the first 6 years of her life in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The family moved to London and she was so unhappy that she refused to speak English for two years. She was hoping her parents would take her back to Argentina.  At 14 she dropped out of school because she wanted to be an actress!  She spent her time between England and the US.  At 16 she was scouted as a model walking outside Harrods department store, eventually she signed with an acting agent… and then BOOM… 2020!

I have been following her since Emma… it was truly a joy to watch her in that and then she comes back with this incredible role as Beth Harmon in the Queen’s Gambit!  She was phenomenal in this role and it is so well done. Anya is SO talented and so beautiful with those natural big eyes that make her look like a doll at times… dramatic and sometimes even creepy!  I loved all her outfits in Emma and in the Queen’s Gambit. She is so feminine.  One cannot stop looking at her no matter who else is in the screen with her… she is like an eye magnet!  Well… there is probably only one person that would steal my sight away from her… that’s right!  Ilwoo!!!  ^ ^

The Queen’s Gambit Spoiler Alert!…

If you haven’t seen The Queen’s Gambit… do not miss it.  It is Netflix biggest series ever, in less than a month it ranked number 1 in 62 countries!  Everything is perfectly done!  Even chess players said the film was spot on from that perspective.  What I loved about it the most is that it’s about a woman accomplishing her dreams in spite of her life’s disadvantages.  And though various men are her friends, it is ultimately her who makes her dreams come true.  No prince needed to save the day…  And for a change she speaks to other women about something else other than men!

Oh!  I wish someday I get to see them acting together…  I would die of  JOY and WOOnder!

This is a really great clip of how they put this series together…

Teaser Trailer:

Bravo!!!   To me the best of 2020!
