To read that he is interested in the environment made me so happy!  I really wish he would take a more active role in its preservation as a celebrity!  He could do so much! That would be something we have in common.  Even though I’m an elementary Spanish teacher, I am looking for ways to make my teaching greener.  Not only by using less resources myself but also by linking my Spanish units to conservation efforts. Every year about 20 of my students graduate and go onto other schools and life.  If I can help plant that seed of caring for the environment for the rest of their lives, I am happier than if they know how to answer the question: “¿Cómo te llamas?”

The Earth is our priority…it should be on all of our minds.  We are running out of time and we all need to take action NOW!  Every one’s effort counts!  It’s in everything we do…

This is a last look at Haechi…for now!

Ever since the Official Haechi Website became active, I have delighted in the many behind the scenes images of Jung Il-woo.  You see, not only are they gorgeous!, they actually become larger than life when you click on them.  And I mean big…! I have an Apple desktop computer which where I do most of my work… and when I click on the photos they became so huge that I can see only part of the photo.  So when I move around the photo, I see every detail in our dear Oppa’s gorgeous face. So I thought I’d share some of these close ups… they are in the order of the episodes.   Cr. SBS

WITAT

Weren’t they just WOOndrous?!  When looking so closely one can see the intensity of his acting, in his face we see the traces of physical effort, of emotion and the the power of the real Jung Il-woo.  Those eyes seem to be at times like lasers that scan every bit of the situation… I get the feeling that when he would look at one, he would see every bit… yet those eyes do no judge… they just take it all in as is.  There are things he prefers of course but he has the eyes of now, of living the moment… so he values everything he sees… he lives it!

I also notice in this photos when he is tired or hurt… his lips say a lot… you can see in some of the photos some darker patches on his lips… he is still suffering of outbreaks of sores for the physical effort he puts in, and they are editing the photos and video so we can’t tell…but with these close ups… one can!

Oh dearest Oppa, I send good energy to those lips!

I also pray for your eyes… I can see how puffy they become when you are tired…

Onto my final observations on Haechi.  I thought it was the perfect return drama for Jung Il-woo.  It was filmed in a more secluded space which meant less people on sets looking at him, so he could concentrate better and get back to the swing of things.  It was also a role that showcased all his best acting attributes: being emotional, being silly and flirty and his very strong king like demeanor… strength and wiseness to lead!

Having the lovely Go Ara as his female lead, was so good as they know each other from the earlier years, so it was a comfortable situation he didn’t have to stress about.  Like filming with an old friend.  It was unfortunate Go Ara was hurt as maybe it would have been even more successful of a drama if it went deeper romantically… but on the bright side, it gave more of the spotlight to Jung Il-woo and his character.

Everything about it was first class… the plot, writing and direction, the photography and art direction, and of course it was perfectly cast!  what a way to come back Il-woo Ssi!

I’m so glad!  God bless you Il-woo for all you do to delight us!  Thank you for Haechi! What a memorable role for you!

Jung Il woo posted a video today covering the first part of this trip in his YouTube Channel.  He will be covering the whole trip in three parts.  I will write a more in depth about this trip here, including places he went to with photos and a bit of history, to complement his videos.  I am also thinking of creating a Google Tour with Google Maps if I have time… I love doing those as it makes me feel with Google Earth that I’m there.   For now here is the video:

Today, Jung Il-woo posted this photo in Instagram.  He made it to Santiago de Compostela!  WOO hoo! He wrote in Spanish! Buen Camino!!  It means Good walk! 🙂 He walked the Portuguese way from Lisbon to Santiago.  Read further down the details of his trip including places he visited…

As you probably know, Jung Il-woo has been walking “El Camino de Santiago” known in English as “Way of St. James” for almost a week.  He is doing what is known as the Portuguese way.  This is not the first time Jung Il-woo has done this walk and he has done other walks there going from East to West.  This walk is a pilgrimage walk.  It leads to the remains of St. James the Great or Santiago el Mayor as he is known in Spanish, one of the 12 apostles of Jesus Christ.  Jung Il-woo posted on October 21st, 2017 the Santiago Conch Shell and immediately deleted it:

Jung Il-woo has said that walking here brings him a lot of peace and helps him clear his mind. He needs it a lot in this moment, because of the unexpected passing of his dog Awoo and the end of the filming of Haechi. I’m very glad he is doing it for mental and spiritual balance.

I was able to figure out where he started!  He started in Lisbon!  I thought he would start in Porto as it takes about two weeks if you walk 20Kms per day… I guess Oppa walks a lot more than that… !!!  WOOw!

February 18, 2021:  Even though Jung Il woo walked officially from Porto to Santiago.  He did start in Lisbon.  You can’t fly to Porto directly from Seoul.  You need to take a second flight, a train or a bus. For a moment I thought I had figured out the wrong place, but I did guess correctly back in 2019!  ^ ^  Detective Fan 13!  

Here he is standing in one of the main squares of Lisbon!  It’s called Plaza Rossio.  How do I know?  Do you see way in the back the store Tezenis… I did a search for it in Porto but found it in Lisbon!

Do yo want to feel like you are there?  This is the Google Map LINK.  You can move around the entire area … and picture our dear Oppa enjoying it!   My family just vacationed here!  They said one of the coolest things in Lisboa was the floor, there are mosaics everywhere!  My nieces enjoyed them a lot! They were there just over a week ago!

At the very beginning of this video Jung Il-woo gave us another clue of where he was… a sign saying “Ponte da Pedra” (Stone bridge).  I looked it up and he was around here:

Well I read a bit more today and I found that the Cathedral is closed for renovation!  So all the masses are taking place in different churches. So sadly we won’t see any post of Il-woo from inside the church…  but read further down so you can see how beautiful and special it is:

I have been on El Camino twice with my family.  The first time we visited Santiago de Compostela. We did not do the walk. It was in 2002! It is a beautiful city, and the cathedral is absolutely beautiful. It is a a very old cathedral completed in 1211. It is a Romanesque structure with gothic and baroque incorporated later.  It looks like this:

Way up on the top is St. James the Great dressed as a “peregrino,” a pilgrim:

This is “El Portico de la Gloria”, like the doorway of Glory.  This is what you see if you look up as you walk in:

Two sights I remember clearly was seeing the devotion of the peregrines as they arrived to the church… many go up the stairs into the church on their knees.  The other sight that I remember was the Botafumeiro.  It is a huge incense burner…

We went to mass and they swung it back and forth…so high!  I thought it was going to hit someone!  The smell is very strong and it gets very smoky inside the building.  The one I saw was a small one, they have one they keep in exhibit  that is much bigger!  It’s one biggest in the world weighing 80 kilograms! It’s used only in special occasions. If that thing landed it on someone’s head they’d get a pass straight to heaven courtesy of the priests!  🙂  I’m not kidding look:

Spain… such a beautiful land filled with passionate people… they have some of the most “live on the edge traditions”  in the world… even inside cathedrals I guess!  The run of the bulls, the Tomatina…The swinging of the Botafumeiro! 🙂

Do you want to feel like you are there a little closer to Oppa?  Go HERE. You can walk all around.  Though the cathedral looks like it was being maintained in that moment, I don’t know if it still is…

My second trip where I encountered Santiago’s way was to Leon and Oviedo. It was in 2016. Two stops from two different routes to Santiago de Compostela. We walked a little part of the way with an actor pretending to be from the 1300’s!  It was a lot of fun… he explained what the pilgrims would wear at that time and what it was like… and he talked with a very weird Spanish sometimes!  

I have some keepsakes from these places… you can see my pilgrim conch shell… someday I will walk part of the way…  It’s on my list!

I am catholic too but a light catholic as I believe we all pray ultimately to the same god!  So I like parts of buddhism too like meditation as I think one has to take care of one’s mind… many people work on their bodies but ignore their minds…  Jung Il-woo tries really hard to take care of both…

This is my favorite Camino de Santiago keepsake: my current keyring!  I got it in León. I couldn’t believe Il-woo enjoys walking El Camino de Compostela! as I always carry it with me.  I really love what it says… “The journey is the reward”  I have always believed in this…and we must enjoy every bit of it!  Well this is the end of this journey for now!  I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!  I will update his photos as he updates… he’s almost done!  It was so fun to take this trip with him virtually!  SO kind of him!  Such an angel!  🙂

I really wish him peace of mind respect A-woo!  I know this weights heavily on his mind.  Do not carry regrets Il-woo Ssi!  They do not serve any useful purpose…  lighten your load!  Easier said than done…

Update May 12, 2019:  Did you notice his lips on the two new photos?  I think he’s having problems with his lips… either cold sores… or heat blisters…  poor guy!  In the photo where he is laying down you can see like a black tape on his lips… I think he’s blocking the sun with it completely…  I had never seen that before…  muy interesante!

I also mentioned a beautiful song that is rings very appropriate at this moment…  it contains a very famous Spanish phrase… “Caminante no hay camino, se hace camino al andar…”  Meaning “Traveller there is no path, you make the path as you walk.”  It is by a very famous Spanish singer/poet called Joan Manuel Serrat.  This version has photos of  El Camino de Santiago…

  This episode “Haechi (The legendary beast that differentiates good and evil)” aired on April 30.  Spoiler alert!

Well I have postponed creating this last post of Haechi long enough.  I didn’t want it to end!  Waaaaa!

We pick up this episode at the Saheonbu court where King Yeongjo tells all those present and tells them that he is abolishing the position  “Chief of Personnel” (that controls all three government agencies) because it is corrupt and no one trusts them.  The news is received in both extremes of the emotion spectrum.  Some are so happy to see this happen at last while the high officials are in absolute shock!

King Yeongjo hasn’t even arrived to his palace when Ja-dong runs up to him that Mil Pung kun is back in the castle causing complete chaos screaming ‘The King has arrived.”  When Yeongjo arrives he tells him that he has come to die as a King.  King Yeongjo notices that he is shaking, that he is scared to die. As he is dragged away by the guards he is able to overtake them and grab one of their swords and starts sprinting sown towards our King.  Yeo ji noticing no one is really going to do anything jumps in front of the King to protect him, but King Yeonjo swiftly turns and protects her.  They both discover that Mil Pung has stabbed himself with the sword.  They watch him die, as he is imagining that he is reuniting with his beloved Yoon-young as King.

We see the execution of the Namin rebel In jwa and Byung-joo.  We also see the very touching scene of Dal Moon saying his goodby to Yoon-young on a bed of flowers on a boat down the river.

Yeo ji comforts the King as he questions his ability as King he may make wrong decisions.  Her answer is that the fact that he asks himself those questions is what makes him a good King. He decides to address the people to ask them about taxes and they tell him that the tax that they find hard to pay is the military tax, and King Yeongjo makes the proposition that the landowners should pay for that tax for the and that they own.  That makes all the aristocrats angry and there is a lot of shouting back and fourth.  To define the situation, King Yeongjo asks the people to split up and go to a different palace gate depending on their opinion. He says that he will follow whichever opinion has the majority. Of course the regular townspeople are the majority so the tax law is eventually passed in their favor.

King Yeongjo visits Dal-moon and he jokes about him being worried that he will become the King of the streets as well and he is going to hold another public conversation soon.  Dal Moon re-states that he is the King of the Streets. He also visits Min Jin heon as he has not responded to the Kings summons to the palace.  He has retired and is working as a potter. They converse and he counsels the young King again and then does a deep bow as he leaves.  Deep as in getting on his knees!

In the last scene we see King Yeongjo hold Yeon ji’s hand as they are surprised by Ja dong.  The romantic scene is broken not only by Ja dong but by King Yeonjo’s discovery that a nearby bridge is in very bad state.  He decides to walk down to talk to the people who live below the bridge and get their thoughts, totally unprotected.  That leaves Ja dong running to get the guard while Yeo ji observes him with love from the bridge.  The drama ends with King Yeongjo thinking and repeating the same words lord Min jin heon had told him earlier from his perspective  “As I walk this road, I hope I will not easily get exhausted or disappointed. After all, both life and politics is about slowly progressing one step at a time.”

Well I feel I have finally calmed down to be able to share this news!

I woke up very early on the morning of May 7.  For some magical power my eyes opened exactly at 2:00am.  It is very rare that I wake up off hours and even more rare that I check my phone.  I know how it disrupts my sleep.  But something on this day compelled me to look… and there it was… the announcement of the ticket sales for his Fan Meeting in Korea!  He looked so beautiful and jumpy! in that gorgeous blue and orange sweater:

I ran to my computer and tried half asleep to get a ticket!  And I was not able to do it through that Interpark link, I actually went to the venue’s box office and it finally allowed me to do it!  And now I am the recipient of a ticket to Jung Il-woo’s First Fan Meeting in Korea after his military service!  It’s been three years after the last one!  I can’t even begin to tell you how happy and euphoric I am… I smile all the time!!!  But most of all I am so thankful to GOD, to my angels that pulled on my ears until I woke up!  If I had woken at my regular time, 6:30-7:00 am and checked all those tickets would have been gone!

So my dear followers expect many photos and stories of all my experiences there!  I was hoping to make a longer trip in the summer, but what are the chances of something like what happened to me that night happening?  Yes…very slim… so I know I’m meant to go now and to be with Il-woo on this Fan Meeting!

“Triumph”  This episode aired on April 23, 2019.  Spoiler Alert!

Well as the name states it and kinda of gives it away, Mun su and all of the rest of the friends of Yeongjo fight in various battles and win step by step.  It was wonderful the way they kept the suspense going leading into the episode thinking that the “patriots” were waiting in the wrong place.  But it turns out that they fooled not only the traitors infiltrated within King Yeongjo troops but the audience as well! So instead of waiting at Jiksan they wait at Anseong  and win their first leg of the battle there.

Our dear king Yeongjo receives the great news that their troops were victorious, and the rebels have been eliminated. It was a happy moment where the ministers try to give King Yeongjo all the credit, but he refuses it and instead says that it was the work of everyone.

The Dowager Queen sends Ywo ji to the King’s quarters to help him get in his armor.  Ja-dong and Jo-hong excuse themselves and King Yeongjo states that “that was completely unnecessary.”  This part was hilarious as Yeo ji proceeds to dress him and tell him that she was well trained to dress him and that she would not stop in the middle like he did when he was putting a hat on her and the medicine.  His jaw drops but soon turns into the sweetest smile.

King Yeongjo receives his troops and walks among them congratulating and making eye contact with everyone of his friends.  They all “we won” “Inscrutable are the King’s favors” among other celebratory phrases!  It was a very satisfying moment for all the men!

The episode ends with all the ‘baddies’ getting caught (except for Mil Pung-kun and his ‘lady’ Yoon-young) and getting ready to pay for their crimes.  The defiance of the the Namin rebel leader while made to kneel in front of King Yeongjo is apparent and his majesty states “I finally meet you, leader of the rebels, Lee In-jwa.”
