Jung Ilwoo is nominated for the Asia Artist Awards, please vote for him!

October  15, 2020

I wanted to let you know of a few tips I learned for voting and getting more hearts:

  1. If you can’t open the ad, try closing and reopening the App.  During very busy times I was able to see more doing that.
  2. You can post a photo daily for 100 hearts.
  3. On the refill hearts side, there are always two I can do, the retweet one for I think 100 hearts and the one about subscribing to a Naver page for 100 hearts.  Sadly nothing else works.  It’s not fair… if it doesn’t work worldwide it should not be there, it gives Koreans an edge in voting… of 500 hearts every time they do any of those!
  4. There is a hot time during the day that gives you 30 free hearts… find it according to your time zone and go for it!

October 13, 2020

I created this short video that shows how to vote.  If you need help setting up your account in the APP, read further down. By the way I think it’s hard to see these ads when Asia is awake, so try to get into the APP around 1:00 AM Korean and Japan Standard Time!  (I haven’t been able to see any ads in the last two hours!)

October 12, 2020

The Asia Artist Awards will be on November 25th, 2020.  No final word yet whether it will a live or virtual event.  Fan votes equal awards… and the way one votes is through an APP called Choeaedol Celeb.  I would like to acknowledge IG ilovejilwoo for being the source from which I read about this today for the first time, and IG jilwww_arabfans for reminding me to post about it!  ^ ^

The APP looks like this:  Este es el APP:

It is not a hard APP to use and the more you play now, the better you will be when voting on the 14th begins.  Voting for the Asia Artist Awards begins on October 14 and ends on November 15th.

No es un APP dificil de usar y mientras más juegues con el ahora, más diestra será para cuando comience la votación.  La votación comienza el 14 de Octubre y termina el 15 de Noviembre. (Hora Coreana)

When you open the APP you’ll eventually be prompted to login or create an account.  Click on the last gray box to sign up.

Then you check both boxes for the agreements:   Chequee las cajas de los terminos de uso y privacidad:

Last but not least you fill out all the information to register:  Ultimo llene este formulario (escribí en azul su traducción)

This video recommended by IG jilwwwarabfans helped me a lot. It describes step by step how to sign up and how the App works with the hearts…  one receives 100 hearts daily and every time you see a heart fluttering on the screen click on it for it gives you one heart.  What you want to do is accumulate as many hearts as possible to give them to Ilwoo as a vote on the 14th of October and daily after that…

Thank you all for supporting Ilwoo…  seeing our united effort will make him happy even if he does not win…

Muchas gracias a todas por apoyar a Ilwoo, creo que el vernos todas unidas le hara muy feliz aún si no gana…

Happy Hangeul Day!

October 9, 2020

Isn’t that an absolute beauty?  Of course he is! … but I’m referring to the Hangeul behind him!  This image of Hangeul and Hanja (Chinese Characters) is from one of the treasures of South Korea.  It is called the “Hunminjeongeum Haeryebon”  and it is the only book of its kind in the world, a guide that depicts the usage of Hangeul, the newly created language by its creator: King Sejong.  Today I will be treating you on a very special journey!  We are going to visit the National Hangeul Museum!

Today is the perfect day to learn about this museum.  Today Korea and our beloved Ilwoo Oppa is celebrating his beautiful language, today is National Hangeul Day!

I visited this museum in June of 2019.  This museum is very close to the National Museum of Korea and between them a lovely garden full of treasures!  This museum tells the story of how Hangeul was created in its permanent collection.  It also has a special exhibits hall, a learning center and a children’s museum.  It had a lot of interactive exhibits, some are easy to figure out even without knowing any Hangeul.  They also gave me a great guide in English that helped me understand some key facts that I would have never known.  I will be using this guide as a base for this writing and will share many images from it.  I documented my visit to this museum throughly!  I took many photos, because I knew I’d want to share it here someday with all of you!  I am so happy to be finally doing it and for such a special day!

How do you get to this museum? Here is the info right from its museum guide:

And here is other useful info:

Now let’s begin this virtual tour!  Ready?! Here we go!

So I recommend visiting this museum when you visit the National Museum of Korea as they both share the same grounds.  Here is a glass map that shows all the areas:

I remember my reaction when I saw the structure of the National Hangeul Museum… immediately I thought  “What a cool building!”

When you go up stairs it basically brings you to the second floor, the location of the permanent collection.

This is the floor map of the museum:

And this is the cover of the English guide:

In the first part of the guide there is an “Introduction to Hangeul” that made me realize just how genious of an invention it was… read on…

Introduction to Hangeoul

Hangeul is a script devised in 1443 by King Sejong(reign 1418- 1450), the 4th monarch of the Joseon dynasty. Before Hangeul, there was no script that could transcribe Korean at will and wholly. The ruling class had a dual linguistic life in that the language was Korean but the script was Chinese characters. Korean was transcribed by borrowing the sound and meaning of Chinese characters, and this was not an easy thing to do for the commoners. King Sejong, therefore, devised a script that could be learned and used easily for the people who were otherwise unable to express their thoughts. The original name “Hunminjeongeum” means ‘the correct sounds for instructing people,’ which a wise man can learn in a morning and even a simpleton in ten days. Today, it is widely known as “Hangeul”(meaning ‘a Korean script’).        Cr. National Hangeul Museum.

8 Basic letters are shaped after objects.

28 Letters Made with Variations of Basic Letters.  Currently 24 of the 28 are in use.

On the Second floor you see the main and permanent exhibit:

“The Journey that Hangeul Went Through.”

It has three parts:

Part 1.  The Creation of Hangeul.

When you walk into the exhibit, you see a huge timeline with little windows and in them you can see King Sejong and the creation story of Hangeoul. I made a video of the Timeline and took some photos of the windows:

Here are some photos of the timeline.  If I have time I will translate it to English.  You will see a photo of my phone at the time with a translation.  It was so helpful in understanding all the writing on the walls!  Tiring too!  (By the way notice the time… yes!  there is a 13 in it! ^ ^)

Then you came to a sort of theater,it showed this great video that told the story of Hangeul and I was able to record most of it. It’s absolutely fascinating! And while you are watching a replica of the “Hunminjeongeum Haeryebon” (Hunminjeongeum= Hangeoul), the book that records the inventor, the objective, the graphic principles and usage of Hangeoul keeps you company! The only such book in the world!  National Treasure 70.

This is what the area looked like. Cr. Pinterest, Jungsang

Here is the video:

This is another video I found… it belongs to the museum too, it tells the story of Hangeoul through time, sadly it does not have English subtitles.

Part 2.  Easily Learned and Conveniently Used

Part 3.  The Globalization of Hangeul

This is a sweet poem about the language:

There was also a…

Hangeul Learning Center

It had some neat interactive displays to learn Korean.

Children’s Museum

I didn’t go inside as I had no kid with me… sadly!  The design was so, so cool!  But I found what it looks like in there at the museum’s official website:

Way too cool!  This is the brochure:

It also had…

A Special Exhibit Hall:  Hangeul Writings from Three Generations of the Princess Deogon Family.

This was the brochure of this exhibit:

Last but not least, I visited the store.  I went crazy… in fact this was the place where I shopped the most.  They had so many beautiful designs for everything!  Here is the store and some of my precious buys.  I treasure them so much!

My favorite buy was this book about the history of Korean Advertisement…  as a graphic designer my eyes couldn’t stop delighting!  I fin the designs with other writing characters so refreshing!  And Korean, or Hangeul is my favorite script of any language.  As a lover of Art Deco, the geometry of Hangeul absolutely… kills me!

That back cover with exclamation signs…  just WOOw!!!  And these postcards with the Hangeul Consonants and cultural bits was so original!  The graphics so colorful and beautiful!!!

And these pencils… I adore them… I bought like 30 pencils of different kinds during this trip… it is one of my favorite ways to remember the places I visited and cheap!

Well I hope you enjoyed our journey to the Hangeul Museum in Korea and now it is time to say  잘 가!  (Goodbye for now!)

If you would like to learn Hangeul or Korean, go HERE for some recommendations!  I have been studying Korean for three years now. The first year, I did it all by myself. Memorizing and memorizing!  There are a lot of free resources and great Apps waiting to help you!  It is such a beautiful language to learn and so good for your brain!

If you wish to see the National Museum of Korea, go HERE.  Did you know that Jung Il woo is a cultural ambassador of this museum?  You can read about it HERE.

Ñapa?  Bonus? Alright, I have one… how would you like to see Ilwoo writing in Hangeul, his beautiful unique autograph and well wishes?   Here he is:

Would you like to read some of his writing?  go HERE.

Have a great weekend!  And America have a great long weekend!  Yeah!

Jung Il Woo’s Ceviche Recipe

October 6, 2020

Jung Il Woo posted this recipe in his Chinese Bilibili account on September 26, 2020.  I have finally had the time to translate the recipe. I used the Chinese characters throughout the video to do it, as the sound quality of these videos is not good enough not even for my tutor’s ears. So to do this translation I took almost 200 screen shots!   If there is someone that can speak Korean that can understand these videos and would be willing to translate these videos for the rest of us, could you let me know at  kdrama.fan13@gmail.com?  You will receive full credit and so many thankful fans!

Alright onto the recipe. Here is the video he posted:

Ingredients:

Seafood: octopus in various cuts

Fish:  I couldn’t make out the fish he used but in a recipe from Food & Wine I got: 1/2 pound of fresh skinless snapper, bass or halibut in filet.

1 1/2 cups of lemon juice

1-2 tomatoes

1 cucumber

a few chili red peppers , quantity according to taste

1 red onion

mashed garlics to taste

cilantro leaves, quantity according to taste (in the photos it looks like what we call parsley here)

salt

black pepper

olive oil

(In the Food & Wine recipe it also has: 3 tablespoons of fresh orange juice, or 1/2 teaspoon of sugar, manzanillo olives chopped and avocados. In other recipes they also add shrimp.)

Directions:

These are the directions according to the Chinese subtitles.  It includes his comments too.  Anything in red was added by me to clarify recipe using Food & Wine’s recipe.

I want to make a delicacy that represents South America: Ceviche. ^ ^

Actually, Ceviche (crispy fish with lemon juice) is a dish

where you can use different kinds of seafood.

You can put octopus in various ways.
This dish is very simple to make.  Because it’s a simple dish, I have been thinking about how to make it more delicious?
(I think here he is comparing Ceviche to a dish from Japan in the raw fish likeness, but I’m not sure)
Actually you can put anything, but the most representative ingredients of Ceviche are
-tomato and small onion
-cilantro
-red chili
(I am not sure he used lemon or lime, he talks about sweetness vs. sourness, and lime is definitely stronger and more sour, so my guess is he soaked the fish in lemon to “cook” it but added lime at the end) Take a look at the exact translation:
I personally think that if you put a little lime
The combination of the overall taste makes the overall taste of this more sour and sweetI will choose to use lime at the end
-There is mashed garlic
These are the ingredients I want to use
First of all
You can put 0.5 to 1 onion
How much do you put in
Just adjust the amount of spring onions according to your own aftertaste preference.
I have this kitchen knife Tiger was given to me by fans
Also, I use it very well
Now , let’s prepare the cilantro
I like it very much
Then like me.  Just finely chop it up
Friends who like more can of course put more
Put the ingredients in the plate like this
(Here I believe he is talking about using different boards to not mix strong smells when cutting?)
Next cut the lemon and juice… not particularly difficult.
I recently have been working on losing weight by eating healthier, but it is not very tasty sometimes.  So I wonder if I can lose weight while eating delicious foods. (I’m 34 years old)
So I decided to prepareCeviche.  I plan to share with you more healthy dishes while I wait to start other work
I use different boards for the different types ingredients like one for meat, one for vegetables.   It’s fine to cut your seafood directly on a board like this.
This is important, using lemon on your board after will help get rid of seafood smell…
Mix it kindly for a little bit
Add seasoning to your taste, I personally will add salt.
Carbohydrates are the biggest enemies in weight loss.
102 photos so far… !
Add salt, but not too much.  A lot of people believe that if you eat salty your body will get swollen because it retains more water, which makes it more difficult to lose weight. My own personal believe is that you can add a small amount of salt and still lose weight.
Now let’s change the cutting board.  I will cut the cucumber in halves.  Some people don’t use cucumber in Ceviche. However I prefer it’s refreshing crispy taste in it. Friends that do not like cucumbers of course you don’t have to put it in!
Now let’s cut the spicy pepper. Cut it in half. Using a spoon makes it easier to get the seeds out. Get them all out…
Cut tomatoes, and onions
Place all the cut vegetables into the seafood and add the lime juice.
It will still need more flavor, so add seasoning to taste: salt, olive oil, pepper, sugar, etc.
Try it right after you stir it all, but of course it’s your choice!
It took 15 minutes to make plus the time preparing the ingredients, but in overall it is a very fast dish to make. You can easily do it at home.

Here are some screen shots with the process, looking at him cook also gave me clues of what he was saying…

Yummmm… can’t wait to eat make this!  I actually ate Ceviche in the South American country of its origin: Perú.  It was so, so, so delicious!  Here is a photo of it:

The corn there was the most amazing corn, in looks, in taste… the kernels were huge!!! They were bigger than the tip of my fingers!  All natural!  I ate corn there everytime I could… I just couldn’t get enough of it!  I’ll have to tell you about this trip sometime!  If you ever want to choose a South American country to visit… let it be Perú!  It’s ancient history: the Incas (among many other native groups), its amazing cuisine and Machu Picchu are unbeatable!  Only Mexico can match it, but Mexico is in North America.

I wanted to see if I could find the apron he was wearing, I really liked it. And I did… you can purchase it here:

https://www.patagonia.com/product/all-seasons-hemp-canvas-work-apron/20050.html

By the way did you know that cilantro and coriander are basically the same!  Coriander are the seeds of cilantro! Some people call cilantro coriander for the leaves too.  That apron is coriander! Perfect for our cilantro-corander lover Ilwoo!

Here are screenshots of my phone with the almost 200 screen shots to translate this recipe… as a memory of my effort!

Phew…!

Looking back at Jung Il woo in his 49 Days Fan Meet in Japan in 2012.

October 3, 2020

Looking back at February, 2012… but before that, a special treat for @patriciacavalcanttte28. This is Jung Il woo singing “Scarecrow” from the drama 49 days:

Back in February of 2012, in spite of being so busy, Jung II-woo flew to Japan for about two days to participate in a “49 Days” Fan Meet with costars: Jo Hyun-jae (who played Han Kang) and Nam Gyu-ri (who played Shin Ji-hyun). This Fan Meet was attended by 2000 fans at the Shibuya Public Hall.  During the Fan Meet all of them sang, they held a 49 Days photos Quiz and each Fan got a CD with the 49 OST and high fives by every actor!  Poor actors, did your hands hurt after that?  Ouch!

Update… I found some other photos that are absolutely beautiful!  They are I think the same of some of the ones I found before, but with better resolution and signed by their photographer “RAM.”  Please credit this person…their work deserves that!  But…he’s wearing a coat…maybe these were the rehearsal ones?

Photos: Cr. Fantagio, Innolife and on photos.

In the domestic drama ‘Chun · Swan directing Kim · Dohn’ holding the sun ‘, Jeong il realizes hot popularity together domestically and overseas in ’49 days in Japan.

Jun Il who left Japan for the promotion of the 3rd day drama ’49 days’ participated in the ’49th’ promotion held at Shibuya public hall while fleeing over 2,000 fans, meaning with fans I spent a deep time.

In the spring of last year, Jeong il, who played an eccentric character at ‘Schedule’ on ’49 days’ airing in the country, enjoyed great interest and popularity overflowing as ‘Scheduler’ in Japan and returning I came. The freshness of the ‘Scheduler’ character which was also high in attention at the time of domestic broadcasting passed even in Japan. The fans gathered at the audience welcomed with a heated cheers and applause as soon as the scheduler Jung Yi showed on stage.

Chung Il participated in talk time and quiz events such as ’49th’ photography episode and impressions on the work at this promotion which was advanced for 3 hours, shared memories with fans, one copy at the end ’49 During the day ‘OST, he performed a direct show about’ Kakashi ‘, which he participated directly and decorated the show gaudy. Also, at the end of the fan meeting, we had high fives with each of the 2,000 fans who participated on this day and gave unlimited impression to the fans with fan service.

On this day Chung Il kept the audience seating with a bright smile and a kind stage manners all the time despite being unable to sleep well for days for the day before shooting the drama ‘Moon holding the sun’ It was said that it felt high likelihood from media gathering media and stakeholders, as well as the buried 2,000 fans. Because of the shooting schedule of ‘the moon holding the sun’ now, Jeon il who came to Japan arrived in a short schedule of two nights and it was unsatisfactory, and received the next visit to Japan.

What is even more surprising is that the drama ‘Moon holding the sun’, which is currently in the middle of shooting, has already gained popularity in the Japanese area, and each journalist and fans’ intensive The thing that gaze continued. Together with the previous work ‘Ikemenramen shop’ has also been broadcast on M – net japan, this also calls for an unrepentable response.

Jung Il who came back after finishing the promotion was much better, surprised and happier than the response to ” 49 ” It is something to prepare a lot of things for the current drama filming I only thank you for sending me a big love though it was impossible, I thank you for a short time but I hope to see you again in the distance “.

Meanwhile, Jeong il, who returned home on Saturday after the ’49th’ success of Japan promotion, returned to the shooting scene of ‘Moon holding the sun’ just after entering the country, digging busy schedule.

Happy Chuseok Jung Il Woo!

October 1, 2020

Hello!  Happy Chuseok to all those who celebrate it!  Here is lovely Ilwoo Ssi wishing everyone the same:

Are you wondering what this holiday is about?  In Western terms it is referred as the “Korean Thanksgiving” because of the similarity in gathering with family to feast on food, but I think that Chuseok is much deeper than that.  According to Wikipedia:

Chuseok (Hangul:추석;秋夕), literally “Autumn eve”, once known as hangawi (Hangul: 한가위 from archaic Korean for “the great middle (of autumn)”), is a major harvest festival and a three-day holiday in North Korea and South Korea celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar on the full moon. Like many other harvest festivals around the world, it is held around the autumn equinox, i.e. at the very end of summer or in early autumn. ” Cr. Wikipedia

September 30/October 1 is the official date of Chuseok this year with the start of the full moon depending where you are, but the public observation of Chuseok runs from today until October 2nd… plus the weekend!  Many people will travel to their hometowns.

This is from one of my posts two years ago. It will give you an idea of what they do in this holiday.

“In the morning of the day of Chuseok, family members gather at their homes to hold memorial services called charye in honor of their ancestors. Formal charye services are held twice a year: during Seollal (Lunar New Year’s Day) and Chuseok. During Chuseok’s charye, freshly harvested rice, alcohol and songpyeon (half-moon rice cakes) are prepared as an offering to the family’s ancestors. After the service, family members sit down together at the table to enjoy delicious food. ” Cr. Imagine your Korea

“The oldest male heir of a household holds jesa to honor his family. This means that my husband, who is an only son, would honor his father and his father’s father when it is his turn to hold jesa. Currently, my husband’s father is still alive so, we go to his house to hold jesa and we honor my husband’s father’s father and his father’s grandfather and his father’s grandfather’s brother because his father’s grandfather’s brother had no male heirs. Technically only men are allowed to hold jesa which means that if my husband’s father’s grandfather’s brother had had a female heir, she would not be able to hold jesa for him because presumably she would have married into another family and would be honoring her husband’s family which is how we came to honor his father’s grandfather’s brother as well during our jesa ceremony. Jesa is passed down through the oldest male heir/relative and that’s the easiest way to remember, put simply. That is also one of the reasons that having a son has traditionally been so important to families. My husband is now the third generation in a row to have only one male heir to carry on the tradition so it is important for him to learn and continue to honor his line for his ancestors. ” Cr. The Soul of Seoul. net

Now…I’m going to make an assumption, I am going to assume that Ilwoo, who is catholic celebrates Chuseok.  According to my Korean tutor, protestants can’t celebrate Chuseok, but Catholics can…  he might not celebrate the traditional Chuseok and attend a catholic mass to remember his ancestors…  this is on my list of questions to ask Jung II-woo someday!  So making the assumption that Jung II-woo celebrates a traditional Chuseok… this is what would happen:

So in Ilwoo’s case, his father has the responsibility to host Chuseok and the “charye” memorial service.  Jung II-woo will go to his parent’s on September 24th and help in the preparations and participate in the service. He will honor his father’s father and the male ancestors up to four generations before.  Of what I read, only the men are honored in this ceremony.

The first thing they do is set an altar table. The placing of the food on this altar is placed according to their colors and make up.  Jung II-woo is probably very involved in this as he loves to cook and various dishes are especially prepared.  To see in detail how they do this, visit HERE.  This is what the table place setting looks like:

Chuseok Jesa Table Setting 2 F.jpg

Chuseok Jesa Table Setting 1

After the table is set, the family will participate in the “jesa” or ceremony prayer for the ancestors.  This ceremony is very symbolic and beautiful.  It is also very arduous as it involves bowing many times.   You can read about it HERE.

Another traditional custom of Chuseok is seongmyo, or visit to the ancestral graves. Seongmyo is an old tradition that is still carried out to show respect and appreciation for family ancestors. During seongmyo, family members remove the weeds that have grown around the graves and pay respect to the deceased with a simple memorial service.  Cr. Wikipedia.

I discovered a few new things I didn’t know about this holiday this year.  The first is a story that is popular in its various versions all through Asia.  It has to do with a rabbit and the moon, and of course I thought of Ilwoo as he is a rabbit in the Chinese zodiac.

“Mid-Autumn harvest festivals around the world have folklore attributed to the moon? In Korea, when you look up at the full moon, you may see the image of a rabbit making rice cakes. But what’s the rabbit doing up there?

This legend originates from Buddhist lore and its retelling differs slightly between countries. The story as it pertains to Chuseok goes like this:

A fox, monkey, and rabbit are devoted students of Buddhism. One day, they have their faith tested by the Emperor of the Heavens. The Emperor disguises himself as a beggar and asks the animals for something to eat. Each animal goes on its own to gather food, with the fox bringing back fish, the monkey bringing back fruit, and the rabbit bringing back some grass. Because of the rabbit’s feeble offering, it decides to light that grass on fire and jump in to offer itself to the beggar. The Emperor was so moved by this he appointed the rabbit as the guardian of the moon.

There are important symbols in the moon rabbit’s image – fertility, longevity, and harvest. The rabbit is a sign of fertility, which complements Chuseok’s celebration for bountiful harvests. In the Korean retelling, the rabbit is said to be standing beneath a gyesu tree. The tree is a sign of longevity due to the medicinal applications of the cinnamon in its bark. The rice cakes it makes is a staple of the Korean harvest and they symbolize an appreciation of the Mid-Autumn harvest, along with good wishes and dreams.”  Cr.chuseok.info.

This tale inspired the artwork I created for this year…  I keep thinking that Ilwoo is as noble as that character… and how wonderful it is that a person can be like that. Here is the last of the pieces I created especially:

All these images of Ilwoo come from his Haechi photoshoot in 2019.  I photoshopped them with the moon and a famous Art Nouveau door in 6 rue de lac, Brussels. This is what the door looks like:

Isn’t it gorgeous?! It was built in 1904.

The rice cakes the story mentions are “songpyeon” (half-moon rice cakes) and they are a traditional dish and prepared as an offering to the family’s ancestors. Can you imagine Ilwoo’s… they must be so delicious!  I tried them from Hmart, the Korean supermarket chain.  They are good!  He mentioned them in his video greeting for this year…

This is what they look like traditionally:

These are more elaborate ones:

I visited the Korean supermarket Hmart yesterday.  I found some songpyeon and bought them.  I also bought two persimmons.  I set up them up on the table with a candle… and a leaf I found walking back home.  I will leave them there overnight as my humble offering to Ilwoo’s ancestors.  I will eat some tomorrow… I hope they don’t mind sharing a few!  ^ ^

This is how they came:

I also discovered this amazing website that taught me so much!  These are some of the links that fascinated me:

Here you can see many other traditional dishes:

https://www.chuseok.info/foods

and their section on drinks was absolutely fascinating to me…  I’ve only tasted a couple of these drinks… if you visit, you’ll see one of them that Ilwoo endorsed in 2007…!  ^ ^

https://www.chuseok.info/drinks

Wasn’t that amazing?  So much to explore!!!  and this is a link to traditional folk games…

https://www.chuseok.info/games

I looked up one of them on YouTube: Juldarigi 줄다리기… it is incredible.  It’s like a major tug of war… this video was very artistic…

This one shows more of the tug of war:

This one shows how they make the ropes!  It’s fascinating!!!  It’s subtitled in Spanish!!!  One of the things it said was that, it takes 200 people to make that rope with all the attachments!!!  200 people!!!

Didn’t the union of both sides remind you of a man and a woman?  ^ ^ Oh!  How I wish I could be there taking it all in!  I think none of this will be possible this year…  just look at the amount of people!!!

Well I hope you have enjoyed this post as much as I enjoyed writing it.  I will leave you with some images of our beloved rabbit ( the ones I posted yesterday) and some photos of bunnies I have seen this past week.  I think what they say is true, what you focus on manifests in your life…  lots of rabbits lately in mine!

I hope you are eating deliciously!

Here are the many rabbits I saw this past week…

Jung Il woo’s Lean Chicken Romaine Ceasar Salad

September 20, 2020

Jung Il woo shared this recipe in his Bilibili account.  My tutor had a hard time translating it as they added music and his words were hard to hear.  So I don’t think I’ll ask him to translate any more of those Bilibili videos… So for the rest I’ll do my best guess!  I will write the ingredients on the top and then leave the translations as the steps.  It is great to read as he talks about what he likes to eat too and his very healthy habits. As a reminder if you are copying this, credit http://www.jungilwoodelights.com.  Again… it is the right thing to do… and life always gives back what you give to it… it’s universal law.

Ingredients:

chicken breast

romaine lettuce

anchovies

greek yogurt

paprika

olive oil

lime

salt

black pepper

cilantro

bay leaves

crushed garlics

parmesan cheese

egg (1 per serving)

100% whole wheat bread (optional)

Directions:

Today, we will make Romaine Caesar Salad.

I am on a diet now, so I wanted to share some healthy and tasty food since I want you to eat that way. I already cooked the chicken breast and I put it under ice. If you put in the ice, the meat becomes more chewy. Today’s ingredients are anchovy, and usually they put mayonnaise when making Caesar salads, but this time, I will use Greek yogurt.

0:54 when you use yogurt, it is less calories so you gain less weight, and it is tasty, so I will use yogurt to make this dish. Things I put are simple. anchovy, bell pepper powder,  Olive oil, lime, salt, black pepper, crushed garlics.  so you can easily make it at home. While the chicken breast is cooling down, I will make sauce. Put two to two and a half big scoops of yogurt, if you eat alone, put less yogurts. You can put anchovies as a whole thing, but I usually make them small pieces.

1:41 in fact, it is very simple. Just cut them like this. When it is all done, put some anchovy, squeeze lime in, and if you want something more spicy, put the bell pepper powder. It gets spicy, so put as you like. And olive oil. I love olive oil so much. If you want a salad, just put olive oil and that’s good enough.

2:18 and then put some crushed garlic. Now mix them well. It’s very tasty. Now tear apart the chicken breast. Just tear them. Using hands is better. It is also good if you put bacon on top of the salad, but I am on a diet, so I removed the bacon. If you want to have bread, there are breads made of 100% whole wheat. They are not bad, also breads with grains and nuts, I think they are good. You need to do exercise to lose weight.

3:14 in fact, there should be some carbs so it can burn fat and make energy, so you must eat some carbs. I avoid flour when I am exercising, and noodles, even though I really love them.

3:34 I boiled the chicken breast for around 15 minutes, and I put cilantro and bay leaf and some black pepper, and then you can get rid of bad smells.

3:47. Now, the I tear the breast all apart. When it is done, put some black pepper on top of it. It helps get rid of bad smells. Now put some sauce on romaine. When it is done, put cheese on top of it.

4:28 I boiled some eggs, and…. What? I boiled it for 6 minutes, I peeled the eggs and put it on top. When you tear them apart, you see the yolk coming out! Now put chicken breast on top of it. Other breast parts, you mix with sauce. Ohh so tasty! Yes! All done!

5:16  Jung Il woo’s healthy recipe, we have finished the chicken breast romaine caesar salad! Follow as I did, and I think you can surely learn how to make it. See you next time!

Here is his completed dish:

As a little extra treat, I am placing the great editing work of some screen shots by IG dct_dgmty.  If you have any problem with me placing them here, please let me know via comment on my latest post there.  Thank you so much for your efforts in editing such beautiful images!

WITAT

Oh!  How beautiful he looks… so healthy!  He says he is on a diet and I just wonder, is his goal to disappear?  He looks so perfect already!

Thank you for all the tips Ilwoo Ssi!

I agree with everything he said except for  the 100% Whole Grain bread.  What’s the point of eating bread then?  Yuk!  I like white bread, buttered or nothing!   French toast with whole grain bread?  Double yuk!  Forget it then!  ^ ^

Myeondong and Zaemiro (재미로)! And Jung Il woo of course!

September 19, 2020

In 2019, I visited Seoul to see Jung Il woo in his Fan Meeting.  I also had the delight to visit many other areas…  after all this with Covid 19, I’m so thankful that I went!  The many memories of this trip continue to sooth my wanderlust need, and inspire me!   For more on this trip, go HERE.  Now let’s visit this area that is often frequented by our beloved oppa!

Myeongdong

I went to this area of Seoul to see the main Cathedral of South Korea and to check out the shopping scene.  I had heard so much of this area through dramas and Jung Il woo.  What I did not expect was that I would run into a whole cartoon area called Zaemiro (재미로) or Cartoon Street… this turned out to be what I enjoyed the most.

Seoul’s Main Cathedral…the Myeongdong Cathedral.

I have this tradition of visiting the main cathedral or church wherever I travel to.  It is one of the ways that I thank God for blessing me with the trip…  and boy did I have a lot to be thankful for.  When I visited this cathedral I did not know that this was Ilwoo’s church!  I later found out that he actually attends mass there!  So now my memory of this place is even more special… his beautiful energy has been there… who knows maybe I sat where he last had sat…  !  ^ ^

According to the Cathedral’s official website:

“Myeong-dong Cathedral, situated in the heart of downtown Seoul, is both the Cathedral Church for the Archdiocese of Seoul and has become a symbol of the presence of the Catholic Church in Korea.
In 1784, the first (Christian) faith community in Korea gathered in this place which was then known as Myeong-Nae-Bang.

In 1894, Father Coste began planning for the construction of the church, and on May 29, 1898, the Church was consecrated with Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception as its patron.

In 1900 the relics of the martyrs who had died in the persecutions of 1839 and 1866 were moved from Yong-San seminary to the crypt in Myeong-dong Cathedral.

In 1942 the first Korean parish priest, Fr. Rhee Ki-Jun, was appointed pastor of Myeong-dong, and the first Korean Bishop Rho Ki-Nam was raised to the episcopate there.

On Liberation Day, 1945, the name of the Cathedral was changed from Chong-Hyen to Myeong-dong. In the 1970’s and 1980’s, Myeong-dong Cathedral became a focal point for the democratic movement in Korea and has played an important role in the expansion of human rights.
Currently, Myeong-dong Cathedral continues to reach out to the global community with prayer and missionary work. Myeong-dong Cathedral is the first brick church in Korea built in the Gothic style. Designated historic spot No. 258, the Myeong-dong Church has significant historical value embedded in its architecture. The floor plan of the church is Latin cross with a center and two side aisles, and the roof of the church is 23 meters in height. The bell tower is 45 meters tall. The architecture retains the pure Gothic style without adornments.”

I loved how elegant it was with those gorgeous gothic arches! Yes, there was a mass taking place…

Here is another place I missed. There is a museum about the origin of the cathedral and Catholicism in Korea!   It’s called “The Seoul Archdiocese History Hall” or (사도회관).  There is a naver blog about someone who visited it HERE . You can even see the ruins of the first church there!  It is a very holy place.

The Seoul Archdiocese History Hall.jpg

And here is Ilwoo last fall in front of the Cathedral:

Venturing on, Myeondong is one of the large shopping areas in Seoul. It had all the looks of any shopping area in the world: lots of signs and stores… and Starbucks! ^ ^  One thing that I will say that impacted me about Seoul in general, was the amount of signs everywhere! It had so many!!!  Sometimes, they were going up the buildings. For example:

It was so contrasting compared to the city where I live. Boston, MA does not have billboards except for one that is historic (the CITGO billboard which I love because it’s a Venezuelan oil company (I was born in Venezuela) and there are no signs on buildings, except at the bottom where the store would be at street level. Some of this is due to the fact that many buildings are historic… so there are very strict rules about even the color the doors!

Our dear Oppa was in Myeongdong in another opportunity as a celebrity and cause quite a scene!  This was back in 2007, when there was a Hug event for his appearance in his second movie: My Love!  Yes! You got to hug him!!!  Imagine that…!  These are a few photos:

For more about this event go HERE.

Zaemiro

After I headed back to the main road and I noticed these big plastic cartoon characters on a little square. I decided to get closer to take some photos when I noticed a map … to an area called Zaemiro, a cartoon street!!!

This reminded me of… Ilwoo as Cha Chi-soo!   Remember when the little girl gave him her Pororo towel because he was cold in Flower Boy Ramen Shop?  Then when he wore it in his bedroom? ^ ^   Pororo the penguin, is one of South Korea’s most famous cartoon characters.

I had so much fun creating graphics/cartoons of Ilwoo for his birthday, that when I was thinking of this post I knew I’d want to do the same especially for this area of the Zaemiro, or cartoon street. So you’ll see my comic creations of Ilwoo sprinkled within…

Reading up about it a bit more I found out that Zaemiro or Cartoon Street, “the street of manhwa”, was opened in December 2013 by Seoul’s city government to promote the “imaginative industry” and boost tourism and the local economy.

“The major sights added to the .28-mile street include five small parks or manhwa culture stations: “Sangsang Park” in front of Exit 3 of Myeongdong Station; “Manhwa Samgeori” in front of the Pacific Hotel; “Sayeon Post Office” where artists displayed the stories of citizens on the walls of a public parking lot; “Jaemi Sports Ground” in a convenience store parking lot; and “Manhwa Hill” on Namsan Ongbyeok (retaining wall). Other new additions included a four-story building with galleries and shops for comics, and some 70 famous local cartoonists contributed their work to walls and buildings along the street. A Manhwa Neighborhood Meeting was held to include the opinions of locals, and both the name of the street “Jaemiro”, and the name of the manhwa culture space, “Jaemirang” were selected from an SNS-based citizen competition and local votes.”   Source: Wikivisualy.com

When you get to the very top of the street there is a highway, and across it (there is a walkway)  there is the Seoul Animation Center.  This place impressed me so much!  I have to go back again!  It had an exhibit area, a Cartoon Museum, a graphic book library! and a movie theater.  The Cartoon Museum or ‘House of Cartoon’ was built in 2002 and has three floors of three dimensional artwork, and a library of over 56,000 items!!! including 48,000 comic books and 8,000 animation videos!  Of all these places I was only able to visit the exhibit area…  (Yes I have to go back!)

Jung Il woo in a video thanking his Japanese Fans.

September 18, 2020

Here is the video… it’s actually straight when you play it!

Hello, This is Jung Il Woo.

Many people congratulated me for my birthday and sent me gifts, letters, and I was so thankful for you and I decided to make a video about it. I have been reading letters for around 4 days. I feel proud of you guys developing your Korean skills, you guys are the best. As a reward for your love, I will answer 99 questions for this month’s Q&A. Every time the video is uploaded, it will be with 9 questions and there will be a total of 11 videos. I will try to answer your questions sincerely, frankly and in a fun way. These days, we can’t really go outside freely, but in some way, I feel happy that we can at least communicate in this way. I hope the Q&A sessions will be a satisfying and fun time for you.

My hair is quite long, isn’t it? It is very long now. I can’t see what’s in front of me well. I am ready for my next acting role, and they are trying to find a concept for it. I am just letting my hair grow. I will show my good acting for you in my next acting role. I will see you in our Q&A time! Bye!

WITAT  (What I think about this)

Another spiritual exercise ^ ^…  Silent Sigh …

…wait!… silent sigh… I love this song by Badly Drawn Boy…  have you heard it?  It’s from a really good movie called: About a Boy…

“Never stop living here
Till it eats the heart from your soul
Keeps down the sound of your
Silent sigh…
Silent sigh, silent sigh, silent sigh
Keeps down all move me down
Could we love each other?”

Weirdest video I know!  But this song is my personal hymn to Ego dissatisfaction… Having no expectations is my goal, of anything or anyone… to just live, love and be happy living and loving… absolutely free… but the Ego always attaches and wants… and boy does it put on a good fight!  It’s like that duck!  It is then picked up when you think it’s dead by some other part of you, that takes it to the moon and relives it and it attaches again!   LOUD sigh! ^ ^

Jung Il woo searches his fans top searches in Baidu… and comments. With English translation.

September 12, 2020

Jung Il woo posted this on Bilibili… he has been trying to connect more with his Chinese Fans. To do this he decided to look up what are the top searches about him in China’s biggest web search engine: Baidu.  He comments about each one… it was very interesting to hear the top searches there.  In my website, the top search and post most read is about his accident.  I’m surprised that did not make his list. I’m also very surprised that they don’t search for his girlfriend… that is another top search that lands people on my website.  Hummmm…

I will use anpan.0225 IG post as a base… I love the way she broke up the videos into 8 parts.  So here we go!  As always remember to give credit if you are using my translation as a base for your translation to another language.  Crediting someone’s work is the right way to repost… a lot of new accounts in Instagram have yet to learn this!   I’m glad he has more people starting accounts and giving Ilwoo lots of love, but its important to be respectful of other people’s hard work.

Today, I want to talk about related words when I search my name on China’s most used search engine. I think it will also be fun to me since I am seeing what people are searching about me. I can also answer you for what you are curious about me. I will open the portal website first. I see there are around 8 related words. First, Jung il woo’s drama pieces. How many did I film dramas?

I debuted with high kick, iljimae, my fair lady, and what was it? 49 days, cool guys hot ramen, moon embracing the sun, golden rainbow, diary of a night watchman, Cinderella and the Four Knights, Haechi, and Sweet Munchies. I did 11 dramas, High-End Crush, it is not on air yet but there is Chinese one and there is one from Thailand. I think it is around 14 pieces. Yeah…

(Me: So cute when he can’t remember…!  so you don’t count “The Girl’s Lies”?)

Second, Jungilwoo’s high kick. It is my debut, that’s why it is on the search, I think. I did this drama in 2006, as a debut. I did a film called “the world of silence” before but it was released after High Kick,  so my debut was with High Kick. I got a lot of love and I think High kick made today’s Jung il woo.  I am really thankful for this drama and I remember this a lot.

Next, Jung il woo’s Cinderella and the four knights. I did this drama before I joined the military. It is shortened as “Cin Ne Ghi (Cin Four Kni)” I heard it was a big hit in China. So, while Cinderella was on air, I did a drama in China, I did a variety show there. I was walking in Shanghai, many people recognized me and told me that they were watching Cinderella. I got a lot of love with this work.  Next, Jung il woo and Wang i buo. They say he is a actor and singer in China. I don’t know why he is in my related search words list, I am also curious. I am going to ask my fans why it is so, I don’t know why. He is good looking.

Next, Jung il woo’s singing. Singing. I did some OST for my dramas. (허수아비, ??,  scheduler song).  I also sing in my fan meetings. For my Chinese fan meetings, I did some Chinese songs. My favorite actor is Leslie Cheung, he sang a song from another person.

(Me.  This is the video of this song by Leslie Cheung with English Subtitles… it is very famous.)

Next, Jung il woo’s family. I am in my home. I think this search word has always come up since I debuted. I am thankful that I grew up happy under good parents. My parents are the ones I admire the most. Life as an actor is not always easy, but my parents always make me focus. I am really thankful for them. My older sister is giving me help a lot, and I am thankful for her as well. In case you were wondering, I am in my home.

Next, Jung il woo, Seoul Choa House. I want to live in Choa House (luxurious housing complex). I live in a normal place, I live on the first floor, and I have a garden, and I love it. I live with my parents and I want to move out and I am planning about it.

Next, Jung Il woo Weibo. It is my place where I communicate with my Chinese fans, and my SNS. I post many photos here to share with you guys. I just started a video platform, and I think they will be on Weibo as short clips. I want to communicate more with you, please come visit Weibo and Bilibili. If you have any questions, ask me on my SNS accounts, I will reply to you there. Bye!
