When I saw the video of Jung Il-woo walking through the Yongin MBC Dramia Park, now known as Dae Jang Geum Park, I knew it was time to do a post about this place. I researched and had a great internet exchange with MGA, a fan that was there last year about how she got there and what she saw and she kindly shared many of her photos! Please if reposting any of them, do what is right and give her credit.
About the place:
It was built in 2005 and has a total area of 2,500,000 m²,out of which actual sets take up 165,000m². The complex features permanent sets imitating buildings from the Samguk, Goryeo and Joseon periods. The complex was opened to visitors and tourists in June 21, 2011 for the first time as MBC Dramia. Recently in 2015, it was renamed to its current name Yongin Dae Jang Geum Park (also written as Daejanggeum) based on the main character of MBC’s 2003 historical drama Dae Jang Geum for promotional reasons.
Location:
This park is located South of Seoul, about 2 hours! Here is map so you can get an idea:
So how does one get there? This is a brochure of the place saying how to get there:
If you are daring and rent a car and use a GPS device, just write Yongin Daejanggeum Park. The address listed in Google Maps is:
778-1 Yongcheon-ri, Baegam-myeon, Cheoin-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea
If you are going in public transportation these are your steps:
1) Go to the Seoul Nambu Bus Terminal, this is a stop on the subway line 3. Do not get confused with the Express Bus Terminal! This is what the bus station looks like:
2) Once inside, get a bus headed to Baegam. This was her ticket:
3)Get off at the Baegam Bus Terminal. MGA said that she was so scared she actually did a search for this terminal and when the bus got there she knew to get off! This is what the terminal, more like a bus stop looks like:
4) From here you can take a bus #105 that takes you to the park. This was the bus schedule back then:
or 4) You can also take a Taxi. MGA took a Taxi. She said the scenery was very country like… and it was a gorgeous August day:
The taxi driver was kind enough to stop for her to get this photo:
And this was her first shot there:
MGA only visited one side of the park. 1-13. This is a map of the park:
This is 1. This is a commemorative film set celebrating according to them, the most popular Korean drama “Jewel in the Palace” . or Dae Jang Geum, which is the current name of the park as well.
This is a video:
Then in the map you see the trail of trees on the very right, she followed this path up to the first bridge. Along the way she saw my beloved Prince Yang! Look:
Then she walked into an area where there are two buildings, the bathroom, a cafe, I imagine dress up areas, etc. are all in this area. There are many photos of Jung Il-woo in this area taken by fans. Here is the area where he meets them the most.
Now let’s look at Il-woo here. The first photo and videos were taken by fan jiwww0909 in the times of The Night Watchman’s Journal:
MGA went up the hill and into the area between 2 and 12… where the first doorway into the palace is…
Then this is the throne room, or No.7 : Injeongjeon Hall, this is where the terrible death of Prince yang took place:
These images of Il-woo were taken there… they are so beautiful!
More? OK… I really love looking at these in the winter:
No question as to who is the most handsome!!! Il-woo Ssi!!!
Do you recognize this last photo? Maybe this can help you:
That’s right…these are scenes from Haechi when he goes to see his father the king to demand his punishment: to be exiled for taking the civil service exam.
This coming up is No. 8, Palace Pond:
I think those scenes in Haechi where they are walking those long uncovered hallways are filmed in this area:
And look who’s here! Haechi!!!
This No. 2 the House of Choe Woo:
This one is No. 3, the House of an Official, or Public offices:
This is the scene (Episode 5) of The Night Watchma’s Journal:
This is the traditional marketplace, No. 4, Jung Il-woo is walking all over the place in this part of the park in one of his latest videos…
Look at him here: it’s the spot!
Here is the video:
And this is No. 5, The Police Bureau. This is where they torture Wol in “The Moon that Embraces the Sun”… remember? and Prince Yang tries to rescue her…
And these Behind the Scenes were taken that day there too… so delightful!
Oh! I can hear his laughter!
This is an amazing view of the whole place. She is at No. 6. There is Muryangsurjeon Hall and Anyangru Pavilion, and “The Moon Embracing the Sun” Cafe. Yes! There is a cafe named like that there!!! I so want to go there!!! See it in the photos further down:
Ha… of their tea selection, I only know Honey Lemon Tea! Multi Grain Latte? Very interesting!
Ilwoo filmed that scene where he is asking his mother why can’t she think of him before she thinks of the king? Why can’t he for once do what he pleases… it’s such a heartbreaking part… here you can see this image in the scene:
MGA said of those buildings had like a museum with photos of each drama filmed there and its script… so great!!!
WOOw!!! What a view!!!
Then she went back into the market place through the tunnel we see in many of Jung Il-woo’s dramas… the one that leads to the outside of Hanyang.
This is Il-woo in Haechi Episode 3 right at this door:
This is No. 12. Donggungjeon Palace (Crown Prince’s Palace.) . This is where we see Jung Il-woo honor his parents in The Night Watchman’s Journal…
This are two scenes from this Episode 5 (remembering and honoring his parents).
And I think this is No. 13, Junggungjeon Palace (Queen’s Palace)
Now the only one I can’t really place is The Return of Iljimae. So I’m going to add a few videos and photos here. This was the first time Jung Il-woo filmed some scenes in this wonderful place…
With this video I conclude this visit to Dae Jang Geum Park with Jung Il-woo. I hope you were delighted! I was delighted to write this post and see so many of the places where he has filmed! To think one can go there… and some fans do even when he’s filming! How lucky they are!
