Are you hungry for Sweet Munchies? Me too, so I figured we could delight in some sweet treats in between episodes and new material. This post is all donuts… but don’t go nuts!
To start… this is a recent video I found of Ilwoo during behind the scenes of High Kick (2007) handing out donuts… he is as sweet as them! And we get to hear Park Haemi’s great voice too (which I did not include in Instagram). Just watch Ilwoo… enjoying it so much!
This next one is Behind the Scenes of the Return of Iljimae (2009)… again… eating a little piece of donut. He also munches on someone else’s snack. Ilwoo makes such an effort in minimizing his calorie intake to look as thin as he does… someday when he is older and people hopefully will move on beyong his looks, I hope he can be accepted with his more natural robust look which I personally like so much better. (Like in High Kick).
Here are the donut photos:
This one comes from the 2015 New Year Greeting which he played in his Fan Meetings:
So beautiful…!
Last but not least, a post from his Instagram account from August of 2016:
Dearest Ilwoo… I wish you a great way to relax like this in the near future… you have worked so hard sweetheart!
Well what did you think? I thought the story was going to be that Tae Wan, the fashion designer was the gay man… not Ilwoo’s character, so I was very surprised by this turn of events! But in spite of him being a gay chef, that will not deter me from having my own fantasies about his character. Sadly, it seems we will miss out on any kissing, cuddling and romantic moves between him and A Jin…which I was looking forward to. But I can’t help wonder… will there be any kissing between him and Tae Wan? It seems that would be pushing the Koean Traditional Envelope very far… but maybe they are changing. I guess time will tell!
Ilwoo you are… such an amazing human being! I love how you seem to understand that love has no boundaries and much less those dictated by sexual preference! You shine a light where ever you go and whatever you do… angel… you have to be!
I decided to create a section in the main menu dedicated to Sweet Munchies to make it easy to access any kind of information… all information: trailers, posters, behind the scenes, articles, stills, episodes … all… and I will update each section as things come out. To see it go HERE.
Found this great video translated to English! Thanks so much to Didi Xiaoyu for translating it! Here it is:
May 25, 2020
Oh! I feel so Ilwoo nourished right now… I’m sure many of you are too! Well here is a bit more. My tutor translated the Ilwoo parts of what he said during the Production Presentation of Sweet Munchies! It is so great to know what he said… so below you will find a combination of photos and his words. If you repost, please do so with the proper credit. This includes translating it to other languages from the English version found here… Be honest and true like Jung Il woo! Thank you!
Update June 2, 2020, Today JTBC released videos in YouTube of the Production Presentation… 4 of them… I think they match perfectly with the way divided it here! So I will add them…
Host: In addition, actors and actresses, please show the viewers hello and talk about the role in the drama.
JIW: hello, everyone. I am Jung Il-woo, who plays as Park Jin Sung in a drama Late night snack man and woman which premiers tonight at 9:30. I own a bistro, and I am a chef in this special place where the customers pick the type of alcohol, I cook for them accordingly.
I will ask from Jung Il Woo. You know what kind of rumor is going on these days? That Jung Il woo is not just one person. Have you heard about this?
No, why?
It’s because not only acting but also did the documentary about nature, participated in magazine, made room sprays, did cooking show, also did this drama, so I guess you are very busy. Can you tell us why you chose this drama, and tell us other good things about this drama.
Well, it is almost 1 year after the drama “Haechi”, I came back to drama with Sweet Munchies. There are some unusual themes that drew my attention from this drama. Also the role as Park Jin Sung had very colorful/diverse aspects and I thought it is interesting. In addition, I wanted to show the audiences wearing “modern” attires, not traditional costumes. Also, I heard that many people saying that I look attractive while I am cooking when I did 편스토랑(Convenience Store Restaurant). So I was thinking about “how can I show what other people see attractive in me in a drama?”, and in the right timing, I got a contact from this drama so I thought “I will show all my attractiveness to the people” and I chose this drama.
You know that you are called “요섹남”(a guy who can cook and sexy).
Yeah, of course
Yes, we are looking forward seeing that “요섹남” in the drama.
About Kang Ji-young:
I see that your chemistry among you guys is nice. A reporter asked us “I think the atmosphere in the shooting places are nice since you three are in similar ages. How is it? In addition, could you please tell us how the chemistry is in the drama ”. Can you reply to this starting from Jung Il woo?
Well, we are in similar ages so we were able to be close easily, and we don’t have many characters in this drama. Even if you don’t want to be close, you have to be close inevitably. Lee Hak-Joo and I went to the same university, so we were able to get close easily. Kang Ji-young is very sociable so it is easy to get close. Our common interest is that we both like Pyongyang cold noodle(평양냉면) so we got friendly fast while eating this cold noodle.
While we are talking about the chemistry. We can see that people are commenting on live chat. Jung Il-woo is very handsome! Thank you for acting in Korea! I thought Lee Hak-joo is an angel thanks to the white look!
I thought he is an angel!
In our drama, there is a “making team” who films how we shoot the drama. Whenever the team is filming us, Hak-joo is very eager to be in the “making video”. When we are on air, you will be able to see our making videos on the website and when you see the clips, you will think “wow, they really do have good atmosphere!”
Minute 7:47 on…
Yeah, really fun and delightful! You guys also danced here as well, but it is pity that we couldn’t show the audiences.
Yeah, after I saw the video, I realized that the power of editing is amazing. In the middle of shooting the drama, we did not know that you had to dance, and we learned only 2 days before the dance and started practicing. Kang Ji-young helped us a lot. Without her, we would be in trouble.
No, no, you guys did really well!
Don’t lie to us!
The director had difficult time because you were so good!
Ji Young taught us where should be the “point” in dances. We have this move in the dance. We danced in our own style.
It is very fun.
Yeah, the reaction from the public already good! We are looking forward seeing your dance moves on tonight 9:30 on drama. Let’s continue with questions. When we think about Jung il woo, you are known as 요섹남, someone who can cook well, a reporter asks if there is scenes that you really cooks in the drama, also what was your main focuses from drama while acting.
Yeah, thanks for the questions. Because my role here is a chef, I did cook everything from the beginning till the end, I also made some new dishes with chef Jang Jin mo. I tried my best “not” to make obvious dishes. I know the process of making food is also important but, the ones I focused on the drama while I was cooking and acting was that people who eat the dishes must react “real” not fake, and I tried my best to make it “really” tasty dishes. I am grateful that they ate it tastily. The pains and thoughts Park Jin Sung had in his life, I wanted to show to the audiences through cooking, even though I am not sure if it really showed it well on drama.
[after the end of the il woo, the reporter asked ji young about the food and ji young basically said “He made the ‘egg noodle’ on the set and we were able to taste it there and it felt like I was in a real restaurant. It was that good”]
But for me, what is really difficult is, in the past, I just had to acting, but now I had to cooking as well. That’s why I practiced at least 5 times before actually filming my cooking, so that I feel natural acting while cooking. I think I spend a lot of time for preparing for the food.
[after that the host asks Hak joo about the food, and there was some dish with fresh water snails and he really enjoyed it. After Hak joo said, the host said “if there is a real bistro of Jin sung, everyone would go there”]
So, to act the role of Park Jin Sung, I heard that you went to the popular chef “Lee Yeon Bok” to learn how to use knives and wok, and also discussed menus with the chef Jang Jin Mo. were there any difficulties and has any fun episodes?
While preparing for this role, both chefs helped me a lot. Episode, while cooking, I use unsafe things such as knives, fire, oils, and my pretty hands went through many hard times. I have a lot of glorious scars now. I had quite a lot of cuts and bled many times while shooting thanks to the knives but I think it is a good memory.
Host = I don’t know if you can see through camera, but you really have quite some scars.
Ji young = yeah, has a lot of scars.
If you look at any chefs’ hands, they have a lot of scars. I am also a chef now, so I am gaining some scars now.
Host = the man who actually can cook.
Let’s pick something attractive from each other. Jung ilwoo about the character Kim Ah-jin, Kang Ji young about the character Kang Tae-wan, Lee Hak-joo about the character Park Jin Sung.
Well, what I see as the most attractive thing from Kim Ah-jin is that she is like a roly poly toy. How many hardships come, she stands up again and never stay fell, and she eventually make things work. She is fresh like a lemonade, the same as the real actor Kang Ji young. I think that’s what is attractive about her.
[Kang Ji young says that Kang Tae wan’s voice is attractive and the way he looks nice subtle and nice.]
[Lee Hak joo mentioning about Park Jin-sung : First, he is really good at cooking. Wherever and whenever I want, he can cook for me. He takes everyone sincerely and he has characteristic of heroic sacrifice and that makes other people move their heart towards him.]
Host: how do you think is the characters and the actor’s synchronization rate?
Well, Jung il woo is really good at cooking so it feels like he is Park Jin Sung in real life. (and the rest is about the other two actors)
What is your suggestion to the viewers about the drama?
This drama’s another main character is the delicious night snacks. Like irresistible sweet night snacks I think viewers will be satisfied with this drama. All the staffs and actors shoot the drama with happiness, so I really do hope all our thoughts and energy reaches to the viewers.
There is live chat saying “I am looking forward Romatic comedy from Jung Il woo”. Chicken and beer for Kang Ji Young. There is a Maltese(the dog) who does acting job.
Minute 10:30 on…
Any specific scene that you want the viewers to focus?
For me, Park Jin Sung participated in an audition by hiding secrets. There is twist on that and it is fun and I think that can make people laugh.
Say good bye to the audiences starting from the director.
It is the first broadcasting day today, so I am also a bit nervous and excited. I hope that the viewers feel warm and happy by watching our drama. This drama is not mundane, but it has a very interesting story so I hope you get some healing through our drama.
Lastly, say 5 syllable about sweet munchies.
Starting from who?
Did you think of anything?
No, my brain is WHITE!
Not only your fashion concept but your brain is also white!
Did you think of anything? No not yet… sweet munchies is….
I think this is the most nervous moment in this interview. It gives us anxiety!
Ah, is it ok if it is not 5 syllable? [yes, it is ok] oh yeah? , I got it now.
Then you have something to say?
Starting from Hak joo
I have it! Me, me! It is special meeting of people.
I will do it. Today and tomorrow,,, waiting for tomorrow,, [what, what? Why so serious?]
(Ji-young) I will do first then. It is about “watching every episodes live”. I am the most modern.
The pressure is on you now.
It is… [today and tomorrow what?] No, no I think I lost my mind.
It is our happiness. The audiences will be happy and the ones who shoots the drama like us are also happy. And that’s why sweet munchies is “happiness”
Yeah, I guess that was good…
WITAT
Phew! Poor Ilwoo Ssi! I love how resilient he is… he never gave up!
One day. until the drama starts, one day to see the Production Presentation live! That’s right, it’s tomorrow at 1PM Korean Standard Time on JTBC Drama. This is midnight tomorrow for me! Thank goodness I have Memorial Day off so I can sleep late… it is always perfect with all Ilwoo related things… I think life is perfect, it’s just our perceptions, our egos and societal biases that get in the way…
Anyways, moving on to lighter grounds, today’s video was inspired by Jung Il woo’s discovery of what he coined “Dalgona” coffee and it going viral. This is the video I created:
Really two days? (Well one more for us…) but yesssss!!! Aiiiaaahhhh! (That was a squeal of absolute delight!)
To continue the countdown, I decided to use my favorite episode of Convenience Store Restaurant… of course the one with Kim Kang-hoon. Our dear oppa like a playmate/teacher! I had a blast making the images bounce and even twirl on the screen to reflect that playfulness. I also found the perfect joyful music to match in Mark Mothersbaugh’s “The Lad with the Silver Button” from Rushmore! I hope you don’t get too dizzy! Here it is:
Here are the screen captures:
So adorable! I seriously can’t pick out who is the cutest! ^ ^
Hi! Thursday already…! Most of the time my days are so alike that I don’t know the difference between a Sunday and a Monday anymore… so I’m glad for this show, because I’ll definitely know that Monday is new episode day… even though I’ll see it much later here.
For today I have some coffee making… I decided on the Fan Meeting of 2014 because the images are so nice! And… I love that he is also making coffee for his fans. He is so attentive and kind… absolutely melts my heart! Here is the video:
Photos:
Such a sweet heart! Want a bit more of Ilwoo Sugar? From this Fan Meeting here heis singing one of his favorite songs:
That date can’t rhyme any better! And it’s 4 days!!! It will be a bit longer for me… I’m hoping Viki only takes a couple of days in translating… sometimes it’s a week! Ugh… Anyways… I’m thankful for whenever I can see it… I’m even more thankful that Ilwoo was able to shoot this drama and stay healthy! I wonder if he has seen his parents…
Well no more WOOndering! For today’s video I used images and footage of the wonderful photo shoot he did with MVIO in 2016. The poor guy was freezing in most of this shoot, wearing a T-shirt in 20 degree weather… and you would never know because he is such a trooper. I tried playing more with the photos… enlarging them and even playing with more than one… it was so fun! Here it is:
Here are the wonderful photos I used and some more… He looks so… so … WOOnderful…
He does have perfect manners… this is a behind the scenes of this photoshoot…
